This is a quick study on Queen Elizabeth II and how she governed during her 70-year reign. Having inherited the Crown at an early age, she was not ready to be Queen, but was thrust into the position overnight. This lesson was written the day after her passing in September 8, 2022, and is written in past-tense.
Through this study students will:
o Become familiar with the duties of Queen Elizabeth as the Monarch and head of state.
o Understand the duties of the three branches of the government.
o Understand the difference between an absolute and constitutional monarchy.
o Become familiar with Queen Elizabeth and what her life was like as Queen.
MATERIALS:
o Student Reading Activity (Included: 2 pages)
o Comparison Chart
o Would You Want to Be Queen or King in a Constitutional Monarch? (Exit Card)
o Access to the Internet for the comparison chart as they will need to research an absolute monarchy. (or) You may print off an article from the Internet to for each group to use. Here is one that compares the two.
PREPARATION:
o Print out a Reading Activity, 1 per group
o Print out a comparison chart, 1 per student or 1 per group (teacher’s choice)
o Print Reasoning Activity (Exit Card), 1 per student

Roman Empire Scavenger Hunt (No Prep!)

This is a scavenger hunt using task cards that analyzes the Roman Empire's expansion, government and legacies left for the modern world which is studied in the 6th grade curriculum under the following standards:
This resource begins by challenging students with a mission, complete the tasks to conquer nearby territories to expand the Roman Empire's control and defend Roman from invasions by their enemies; failure will result in the downfall of Rome. Check out the preview to see what each task card entails. Students will need to walk around the room reading the task cards. Each task card has a code word on the bottom which is the answer to the question/fill in the blank. The answer will NOT be found on that same task card. For example, the answer to task card #1 is found by reading the passage on task card #6. Students MUST record which task card they found the answer on in their answer sheet under the “FOUND CARDS #” column. That column will be used at the end for the 4 digit lock code. They will follow the clues to find the correct 4 digit code. Once they have completed the scavenger hunt they will receive a half sheet of paper stating that they have successful expanded the empire and defended off all enemy attacks!
This activity would be a great review before assessments, as a center activity, a group activity, etc. Students will be engaged with the learning while having a fun time trying to solve all of the clues!
Europe Geography — Eastern & Western Europe Scavenger Hunt (Intro Activity)

This lesson is easy enough for 5th graders to understand yet works well with students up to grade 12. Modifications can be made as needed.

Students will find this Eastern and Western Europe Scavenger Hunt activity fun and motivating, and it will encourage students to examine the physical, political, economic, and cultural characteristics of Eastern & Western Europe, along with the geographical themes. This is the perfect activity to introduce and begin your European unit.
For this activity, provide each student with a student activity sheet. Students will work in cooperative groups of two to four, depending on your students and their ability and experience in working in cooperative groups.

This is a scavenger hunt using task cards that analyzes ancient Greece in regard to their culture, government and Alexander the Great which is studied in the 6th grade curriculum under the following standards:
This resource begins by challenging students with a mission, act as Alexander the Great and conquer new lands across Africa, Europe, and Asia, just as Alexander did over 2,000 years ago; failure will result in them "perishing", unable to overcome the rugged terrain and powerful enemies that stand in your way. Check out the preview to see what each task card entails. Students will need to walk around the room reading the task cards. Each task card has a code word on the bottom which is the answer to the question/fill in the blank. The answer will NOT be found on that same task card. For example, the answer to task card #1 is found by reading the passage on task card #6.
