What is a Surd? | Skills Poster on surds
By LittleStreams
What is a Surd? This is a surprisingly slippery topic. As a teacher or tutor, we might have an understanding of what one is, but there are a lot of loopholes, traps and exceptions. This poster helps! We have found in our research that explanations of Surds often omit certain pieces of important information in order to generate a simpler understanding, only for the student to be told that there are some exceptions to the rules. This poster therefore aims to set a firm grounding on which to build an understanding of surds without having to navigate through the maze of exceptions and loopholes. Graphing Linear Functions Differentiated Review Activity | Grade 8 Math
By EZMath
Level Ups are a fun way for your students to practice or review graphing linear functions in both slope-intercept form and standard form. Aligned to the common core standards, this Level Ups activity includes 5 differentiated tasks that increase in rigor. The task cards begin with pre-requisite skills involving proportional relationships and the basics of slope and y-intercept, then "level up" all the way to creating an appropriately scaled graph for a given linear function scenario.
Students start at level zero and work their way up to level 4, giving them accurate feedback on what they have mastered, and what they still need to work on. This lesson works as a great way to review what is and is not a function, or as preparation for an upcoming assessment.
This activity includes:
My students love "Level Up Day" in my own classroom, and the activity works great as independent practice, a pairs activity, or even group work. I also use this when I need a majority of students working independently while I pull a small group for intervention.
If you enjoy this activity, please check out my other Level Up products, or my Team Target Review series, which encourages group work and rich math discussion.

Common Core Math Activities For Grade 12
By Bright Classroom Ideas Marketplace
The mathematical content standards are created as progressions in learning across grade levels, outlining the conceptual understanding and skills students should have in math. Grade-specific standards are in place for students from kindergarten through 8th grade. In high school, the standards are grouped according to "conceptual categories." Every set of standards consists of several "domains" that organize related standards to create consistency around important mathematical concepts.
The high school level standards detail the math skills needed for college and career readiness for all students. Additional mathematics are part of the curriculum for students opting for advanced level classes. The high school standards are structured by "conceptual categories," each offering a "coherent perspective of high school mathematics." Some of these are:

Middle School Math Skills Review- Reference Sheet - Study Guide and Test Prep
By Kile's Classroom
Great End of the Year Test Prep! Use this great resource to keep your students aware of the essentials they must know during their middle school years. The Essential Skills resource page can be used as a teaching tool as skills are being taught, or use it as a review tool toward the end of the year. Each section has blank spots (red sections) for students to fill in and apply the knowledge they have learned. There are two included activities to help students practice using the reference tool. • The scavenger hunt pages should be cut in half (there are two questions per page) and posted around the room. The student start at any point and travel to each question using the reference page to help them answer the questions. Answers are filled in on the answer page. The questions range in difficulty from simply copying formulas, to applying formulas to solve. • The second activity is a seat work assignment where students must apply the information from the reference sheet to solve problems. This resource is great for students in 7th and 8th grade, but can be used very effectively for intervention students that need extra support with remembering previously taught skills. It is also a wonderful tool for advanced students that can independently work ahead on more difficult skills. Check out Kile's Classroom for other activities! Prime Factorization Math Mission.
