Complete level 1 Beginning French curriculum bundle of readings, units, games

By Frenchified

Get a full year's worth lessons and activities for first year French. These French units and resources include everything you need to teach and practice the typical things taught in a level one French course.

Teaching from a textbook can get boring, and sometimes textbooks simply don't give enough practice to learn vocabulary and grammar. Maybe you would rather focus on communication, and you plan to use a comprehensible input approach, but your textbook doesn't really work for that. This French curriculum bundle will give you everything you need to have structure, variety, and practice in your level one French classes.

This level 1 French curriculum Bundle Includes:

  • 8 full units using comprehensible input - cover the same material as most first year French textbooks but using the language with repetition and context.
  • 36 Digital games to practice vocabulary and grammar
  • 19 Digital escape games to learn about the culture of the Francophone world
  • 12 Non-fiction CI lessons - learn about interesting topics using sheltered language and grammar, with lots of repetition and a focus on comprehensibility
  • 12 CI short story lessons - cute stories with very limited vocabulary - each story includes story retell and comprehension activities.
  • 3 Interactive notebook pages for some of the biggest grammar points in first year.
  • 5 grammar lessons with PowerPoints to teach some of the most basic French grammar - subject pronouns, adjectives, ER, IR and RE verbs

Use the full units as the backbone of your instruction, and the digital games will give students extra practice with the vocabulary and grammar points. For fun, you can spice it up a bit with an escape game, short story, or non-fiction lesson every so often.

Mardi Gras customs and history self-correcting digital game - no prep!

By Frenchified

Have fun playing this Mardi Gras digital game to review or learn about the customs and holiday of Mardi Gras. 30 questions about the traditions and facts about the holiday, in three different formats. Assign students the PowerPoint, Google drive or PDF version - they will work through the game by finding the correct answer. Or play as a class together on a Smartboard! Use it as a review after teaching about the holiday, or make students do the research to find the information they need to work through the questions.

Each slide has a question in English about the history, tradition or customs of Mardi Gras.  If you've already learned about the holiday, use the game as a fun review.  If you haven't yet learned about the holiday, you could assign it as an activity where students need to look up the answers online.

The game starts with a path that needs to be followed - each section of the path contains three multiple-choice questions.  If you answer the questions correctly, you'll win a doubloon and move on to the next section.  If you get a question incorrectly, you'll need to redo that section. Finish all 30 questions and win the game.

The game is entirely self-correcting, so students can play through independently.  You can assign it as a PowerPoint show, a Google slides presentation, or a pdf.  If you'd like to play as a class, you can project the game on a whiteboard and work through it together. It's a fun way to learn about the holiday that your students will enjoy!

If you'd like an even more challenging Mardi Gras digital game, be sure to check out the Mardi Gras digital escape game.
