Engaging Stations Professional Development | PD | Instructional Coaching | Admin

By Professional Development and Teacher Prep

Professional Development- Engaging Stations

Are you in need of an engaging professional development for your teachers? We expect our teachers to be engaging with their students but we rarely engage our teachers with their learning. Additionally, as teachers, we got away from using hands-on resources in the classroom when COVID-19 happened. Hands-on resources give students a tangible, experiential way for learners to engage with concepts, making abstract ideas more concrete and understandable. By physically manipulating objects or engaging in interactive activities, students can grasp complex concepts more easily and retain information better. Now it is time to refresh our memory on the hands-on resources we can use in the classroom or that we have buried somewhere.

This Canva Presentation is a copy that you can edit and is centered around giving teachers engaging ideas to use for centers or rotations.  The professional development is editable and can be altered to fit your teachers’ needs.

Additionally, this presentation can also be downloaded as a PowerPoint or Google Slide. You will go to the share button in Canva and then the download button. After the download button, press the down arrow where the file type is and select the file you want to download it as.

This PD is important because it gives teachers the following to think about:

  • Varied Teaching Strategies: It introduces teachers to diverse teaching methodologies. Engaging stations often incorporate different activities, catering to various learning styles and preferences. This equips educators with a range of strategies to better engage and reach different types of learners in their classrooms.

  • Active Learning Techniques: Stations promote active learning, encouraging students to interact, explore, and apply knowledge actively. Educators trained in these techniques can create dynamic, interactive learning environments that stimulate student involvement and participation.

  • Differentiated Instruction: Stations can be tailored to accommodate different proficiency levels or learning paces within a classroom. Through professional development, teachers learn how to design and implement stations that cater to individual student needs, allowing for more personalized instruction.

  • Increased Student Engagement: Engaging stations often lead to higher student interest and participation. By providing professional development in this area, teachers can learn strategies to create captivating, interactive lessons that capture students' attention and foster a love for learning.

  • Encourages Collaboration: Stations often involve group work or collaboration among students. Training teachers in station-based learning encourages them to design activities that promote teamwork, communication, and cooperation among their students.

The topics and what is included:

  • 15 Editable Canva Slides on Engaging Stations

  • Real pictures of centers and students using the centers

Gameplay:

  1. The clue giver selects a number from the selection board, revealing the word to be described as well as the "oopsies" associated with it.

WHY BUY THIS?

Aren’t we all a little more engaged when material is presented to us in a fun way? The odds of finding a review game for this specific test on TeachShare are pretty slim, so save the time spent searching for something and create a game yourself

NAFTA & The U.S./Mexico Border

By Sarah Austin

This lesson is based on my own personal experience as a participant on a USA-Mexico border tour project organized by Rethinking Schools & Global Exchange that provided first-hand experience and knowledge concerning the effects of U.S. foreign policy, such as NAFTA, on the lives of ordinary people who reside in the Tijuana area. Students will be prompted to delve far beyond the mainstream explanation that answers the critical question as to why people cross the U.S.-Mexico border. This lesson will have students examine the broader context, and underlying factors to this question, which intimately tie itself to Mexico's agricultural economy. Students will identify the causal puzzle pieces, and then create a ‘LOOP’ (web) diagram that will serve to demonstrate their understandings of how these underlying causes interconnect with one another. Materials: • One 50 Slide PowerPoint • Grading Rubrics • Student Loop Diagram Examples • Printable Handouts: 1) Handout #1- Power-Point Guided Notes 2) Handout #2- The U.S.-Mexico Border Puzzle Pieces If you liked this lesson see the 'BUNDLE unit lesson' here: NAFTA & the U.S. Mexico Border Bundle I OFTEN PROVIDE FREEBIES TO MY FOLLOWERS AND ALL NEW PRODUCTS DEBUT AT 20% OFF: • Look for the green star next to my store logo at the top right corner of this page and click it to become a follower. Students will work together in teams or cooperative groups and will travel through 12 picture galleries learning about the different world religions: Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism among other religions. This is a great activity for an introductory lesson or for a reinforcement activity!

Covers the traditions and practices of the world’s most influential religions of the world: Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islamism, Taoism, Animism, Shintoism, Monotheism, Polytheism & non-religions: Atheism, Agnosticism. The lesson teaches the difference between polytheistic and monotheistic religions.

OBJECTIVE:

  • The learner will become familiar with world religions’ cultural hearth, beliefs, and practices.
  • The learner will recognize and understand key terms of each world religion.
  • The learner will examine the beliefs, traditions, and customs of the major religions of the world.
  • The learner will determine the similarities and differences between each world religion.

MATERIALS:

  • Copies of each gallery, laminated for future use and durability. (Place these around the room or in the hall if more room is needed)
  • Use adhesive to adhere all 12 gallery sheets to the wall, spread out as if you were in a gallery.
  • Post-it notes for each group
  • A clipboard or a piece of paper for each group to place their sticky notes on as they move around the room.

INCLUDES:

  • Teacher Guide
  • Chart to display
  • 12 Galleries with images and explanations
  • Introduction guiding questions and suggested videos
(Suggested videos are simply suggestions, it will be up to the instructor to select a video if they choose to use one.)
  • Procedure activity along with the gallery walk
  • Exit tickets
  • Opt-out sample letter to parents

IMPORTANT NOTE:
World religions can be a sensitive topic. When presenting the religions and discussing them do not show any bias’ toward one religion. Remain neutral so as not to lean to accept one religion over the other. This is a factual lesson that helps students understand culture throughout the world as many cultural practices are relative to a specific religion within the region. You may have some parents who prefer their child to not be taught this within the classroom setting. If your district has a policy where parents can request their child not attend class during a sensitive topic, then send out a letter to all parents communicating that your class is starting a unit on world religions and have them sign it to opt-out or opt-in. Follow your district’s guidelines.

Oops Autumn Edition - FUN Taboo-Like Game Activity PDF with Online Version

By Oops Math is Fun

Bring some seasonal fun into your classroom with Oops! Autumn Edition, a taboo-like game designed to challenge students' vocabulary while keeping them engaged. This interactive game will boost team collaboration, communication, and critical thinking—all while having fun! Perfect for middle school and high school students, this fall-themed activity is ideal for classroom warm-ups, brain breaks, or seasonal events.

Objective of Oops:
In this game, students work together to guess a word while avoiding specific "Oopsies" (taboo words). The clue giver provides hints without saying any of the "Oopsies," while the guesser has one minute to guess the word based on the given clues. If the clue giver says an "Oopsie," they lose a point!

What's Included:

  • Teachers Guide with step-by-step instructions on how to play
  • PDF Version of the game featuring a clickable game selection board and a return-to-board button on every "Oops" card
  • Printable Game Tracking Sheet to keep track of points and rounds
  • Online Game Versions with timers:
    • 40-second timer version
    • 1-minute timer version

How It Works:
Players pick a number from the game selection board to reveal a word and the associated "Oopsies." The clue giver describes the word without using any of the "Oopsies," while the guesser, seated with their back to the screen, tries to figure it out. You can easily track scores using the provided tracking sheet. After the set time, the next team takes a turn.

Why You'll Love It:

  • No Prep Needed – Just download and play!
  • Interactive and Engaging – Perfect for building vocabulary and teamwork skills.
  • Seasonal Fun – Add an autumn twist to your classroom activities.

Get ready to hear your students laugh, learn, and compete in this engaging game. Great for autumn-themed lessons, Thanksgiving prep, or classroom celebrations!
