• Lit Match: In the second task, your child must match literary terms with their definitions by drawing a line connecting them. Letters not intersected by the lines form their second code leading to the next task..
• Where The Heart Is: In the third task, your child must identify the part of speech used in inspirational quotes about home. Shaded letters within the correct answers form the third code which leads to the next task.
• Ah-Mazing: In the fourth task, your child must solve a word maze. Letters collected along the way form the fourth code leading to the next task.

PowerPoint Presentation

This 13-slide PowerPoint presentation explores the experiences and contributions of women during the Civil War. It is an ideal lesson for the Civil War period or as a stand-alone resource for women’s history. It is also a good resource during Women’s History Month.

Each slide contains information and graphics that highlight women’s changing roles due to industrialization. It highlights the different experiences based on social classes as well as work experiences and early organizational efforts.

The PowerPoint slides are available both as PPT and PDF. Check the Bonus section for the additional file.

There is also an Easel Assessment. For Home Schoolers or for asynchronous learning, this is a valuable digital tool.

Reading Assignment and Worksheet

This three-page Reading Assignment and Worksheet provides an overview of the various activities, attributes and activities of women during the Civil War. Students will learn about the varied experiences of women, especially based on region, socio-economic status and cultural background.

Students can read this on their own in class, as a homework assignment or it can be a group activity in a classroom. It is also ideally suited for home-schoolers or independent learners who want to learn more. A Worksheet with questions based on the reading is included, along with an Answer Key.

Primary Source Analysis and DBQs

This 20 page DBQ and Primary Source Analysis activity gives students a chance to delve deeper into women’s experiences and contributions during the Civil War. In addition, there are two Document-Based Questions (DBQs) available for students to complete.

Included is a one-page sheet that explains what primary sources are and how to analyze them using specific questions through a process called HAPPY. Primary sources include speeches, essays, a declaration and cartoons. Each page of primary sources includes questions. There is also a page at the end for students to apply the HAPPY process to one source. An Answer Key to all the questions and the HAPPY process is available at the end of the packet. This is excellent practice for all high school students, particularly Honors and APUSH students, but all students will find these resources engaging.

Students can read this on their own as a homework assignment or it can be a group activity in a classroom. It is also ideally suited for home-schoolers, college students or independent learners who want to learn more. Teachers can assign just a few sources to analyze or the entire packet. Student time will vary.

There is also an Easel Activity which allows students to answer the questions at the end of each primary source online. For homework purposes, Home Schoolers or for asynchronous learning, this is an especially valuable digital option.

STUDENT GUIDELINES FOR USING THIS RESOURCE

After reading each figurative language example on the board, move to the side of the room labeled “Metaphor,” “Simile,” “Hyperbole,” or “Personification.” Be prepared to defend your choices. You may disagree with your classmates’ opinions but do so respectfully. (I typically go over each example with students and discuss the impact of the words or phrases to uncover the deeper meaning. Ask questions such as, "what is being compared?" or "what can the reader visualize?")

*As an optional follow-up activity, use my No-Prep Figurative Language Short Passage Set resource to assess individual understanding, homework, or assessment!

REFLECTION:
The class can review the answers and comments as a whole group when the activity is complete. You’ll be surprised how much better they’ll get at figurative language after being exposed to some high-quality examples!

This Four Corners Game is a fun, no-prep activity you can use to review the homophones "there" "their" and "they're" that your students will LOVE! They will love moving around the room as you click through the 40 fill-in-the-blank sentences. I’ve found that my students confuse these words and, as a result, their writing is hard to understand. You will love this well-organized activity that allows students to test their knowledge, get exposure to sentence examples, and even learn something new! STUDENT GUIDELINES FOR USING THIS RESOURCE

First, review the three terms using the Mini-Lesson slide with examples.

Then, after reading each sentence on the board, move to the side of the room labeled “THERE,” “THEIR,” or “THEY'RE” depending on which word you think should fill the blank. There's an additional fun emoji slide for students who are unsure of the answer!

REFLECTION:
The class can review the answers and comments as a whole group when the activity is complete. You’ll be surprised how much better they’ll get at writing without confusing using these homophones after being exposed to this high-quality kinesthetic review!

My Mini Bible Letter Books

One for each letter of the alphabet! Each mini book is 7 mini pages on two full sheet of paper. They are easy to print, cut down the middle and staple together.

Each Book Includes

• Page 1: A Bible verse that begins with the letter. This can be used for memorization too!

  • Ex) All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Rom.3:23

• Page 2: Letter with Bible Word, Picture & short lesson

  • •Ex) A is for Adam
  • •Adam was the first man God created.

• •Page 3:Another Letter with Bible Word, Picture & short lesson

  • •Ex) a is for angel
  • •An angel told Mary she was going to have Baby Jesus.

• Page 4: Uppercase Learn & Practice: you can use these pages to teach what the letter looks like and how to write it, you could also introduce the sound.

  • Say & trace it- The letter is shown with numbered traceable lines inside it for the student to follow. Could use a highlighter
  • Color it: The letter is shown in a sort of bubble font so the student can color inside it.
  • Write it : The letter is shown dotted on lines for the student to trace then write on their own.

• Page 5: Lowercase Learn & Practice: you can use these pages to teach what the letter looks like and how to write it, you could also introduce the sound.

  • Say & trace it- The letter is shown with numbered traceable lines inside it for the student to follow. Could use a highlighter
  • Color it: The letter is shown in a sort of bubble font so the student can color inside it.

• Page 6: Letter Maze The letters on in block squares inside a maze. The Student must look for the letter to follow a path from start to finish. Could use a highlighter.

• •Page 7: Letter Sounds Cut & Paste At the end of this resource you will find pictures of things that begin with each letter of the alphabet. The student will cut and paste the pictures that make the same sound.

  • •Ex) on the A page, the student should cut an anchor, acorn, angel and ax.

Letter Sounds Pictures ( Pg. 58-65)

•Organized three letters at a time, these are pictures of things that begin with each letter of the alphabet. These are small enough to cut out and paste onto the last page of the mini book. Very little ones – You could let them find the right pictures then you may want to cut them out for them. I would suggest printing them on cardstock. I used a color cardstock.

Alphabet Posters Sample ( 67-70)

•I created full sized posters to be used to decorate your classroom, use as visuals, stick to your fridge or dry erase board to remember the letter of the week. I provided three free samples for you in this resource. Post on cardstock or laminate.

What's great about these mini books is they include almost all of the resources that are in other kinds of letter of the week curriculums but i_nstead of wasting tons of paper, you are are only printing two pages a week_ !

These were created with Preschoolers in mind, but they could be used with Kindergarten as review, as remediation or for sped.

The graphic novel, Sweet Valley Twins - Best Friends - The Graphic Novel by Nicole Andelfinger is great for children ages 9 - 15 years old, as they can relate with the characters. This is a book about friendship, getting along with siblings, developing interests, finding oneself, bullying, being a good friend, and being yourself as students navigate middle and high school. This book does not have chapters, so comprehension questions were separated by pages. Therefore, written comprehension skills and multiple choice questions are emphasized throughout this product.

The comprehension questions in this product relate with the text as well as students own experiences. Vocabulary words, their meanings, and a few example sentences are presented in the packet. As the book is being read aloud, as students are reading the book or after the book has been read, students can answer the comprehension questions in this packet.

In this product, The Man Who Named the Clouds is read and reviewed. Students will review/learn facts and vocabulary about what a forecast and meteorologist are, what a biography is and if it is comparable to a fiction or nonfiction text, review vocabulary words and their pictures that are present in the text, different kinds of clouds, learn about the author and the illustrator, and students will write a weather journal. Students will answer comprehension questions using this product. They can complete these questions individually, in a small group, or with support. There are several pages of comprehension questions in this packet that differ from the questions asked in the teacher edition. Selection vocabulary words, their meanings, and an example of them used in a sentence is included in this product. Students will have the opportunity to make up their own sentences for each selection vocabulary word as well. The questions from the text are adapted in this packet to meet each of your student's needs. At the end of the packet, students will answer comprehension questions about the author and illustrator.
