Students will use balls, cars and other objects on ramps as they consider the question, "What affects the way an object rolls down a ramp?" This packet supports the Next Generation Science Standards.

The “Science Kids” series is intended to help teachers implement developmentally appropriate, hands-on science activities for children in Preschool, Kindergarten and the early grades. The activities in these packets are based on the scientific method and encourage inquiry-based learning. All activities can be differentiated to meet the needs of your students.

Concepts in this Unit:

*Some objects roll down ramps, while others slide.

*The height or texture of a ramp will change the distance and speed an object rolls.

*Changing the weight of an object will change the distance and speed it rolls down a ramp.

*An object will move around obstacles that are in its way as it rolls down a ramp

Investigations include:

Being an introduction to life science, this unit covers a wide range of standards, but does not cover any specific standards thoroughly

• MS-LS2-2: Construct an explanation that predicts patterns of interactions among organisms across multiple ecosystems.

This product includes notes for students who should focus on the important details of reacting to their environment.

Vocabulary words that are emphasized in this packet include: the five senses - taste, touch, sight, smell, and hearing, changes in our environment, living things in their environment, stimulus, response, reaction, external stimuli, internal stimuli, what sense organs some animals use to detect changes in their environment.

These notes can also be used as adapted notes for students who need more support. This packet includes students to answer comprehension questions using short answer and fill in the blank responses based on what was reviewed in the notes.
