Journey Through the Civil Rights Movement: Gallery Walk
By Sarah Austin
Begin your study of the Civil Rights Movement in a powerful way by having students participate in a gallery walk activity. Using primary sourced drawings and photographs, the gallery walk begins in Africa, and moves through slavery, the Reconstruction and Jim Crow, and carries on to present-day issues. This lesson will vicariously draw your students into the lives, circumstances, and struggle for social justice of the past and today as they engage in the analysis of primary sources. This unique resource will bring the photographs to life as students will be provided with additional background information that will come in the form of first hand accounts and testimonies of the people who experienced the injustices, and were also social agents of change.

By Geography & Math Made Easy
Zip File Reader Needed To Open File
In our global society, our students need to understand how **cultures are developed **and how they adapt to and adopt practices and beliefs from others through cultural diffusion. As students understand cultures vs subcultures, it will help them navigate and appreciate the diverse world we live in. In this lesson, students will look at "the American culture" vs its subcultures.
Students will enjoy working in **cooperative groups **to create a collage that illustrates various American subcultures. This activity will require them to use **higher-order thinking skills **as they analyze, compare, and evaluate American culture alongside its subcultures.
Additionally, students will complete a short preliminary assignment in which they will interpret a political cartoon. This approach caters to** visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners** in grades 5 through 12, ensuring that even older students will find it engaging!

These graphic organizers are a great resource to use when reading content, taking class notes, for formative assessment, or incorporating into other assignments and activities. These can be used on a daily basis and in a variety of settings. Ready-to-pint!
It has been proven that students who are able visually to organize the content retain it better. These 10 organizers will teach students how visually organize the information presented in social studies, science, math, and language arts. I use these on a daily basis to help students learn how to organize the material being covered. The T-Note organizer is a great training tool to use in teaching students how to create clear and neat notes. It also encourages students to inquire. Once you purchase these, you will be able to save them to your computer and tweak them to use in your classroom.
