Addition and Subtraction of Integers (with Parentheses) is an important T-junction in the life of students. To help them think in real-life ways about this important but abstract topic is very important. This product includes notes and a 62-problem task with complete key on problems such as 9-(-6). Students should think about adding and subtracting in at least the following three ways:
Money - Positive numbers and addition is having money or earning it and negative numbers and subtraction means being in debt or spending money.
Temperature - Positive numbers and addition is temperatures above zero or getting warmer and negative numbers and subtraction means it is below zero or getting colder.
Number Line - Positive numbers and addition is movement to the right and negative numbers and subtraction is movement to the left. (You always start at zero and you do also count zero in the steps)
I have been teaching Integer addition and subtraction since 1994. I have tried every method under the sun - this method works best.
