After reading these two articles students are given a prompt for an expository essay on narcissism. There is also an outline sheet included for students to use in order to help them organize their essay. Plus a rubric for easy grading of final essay.

Julius Caesar PRE-READING HANDOUT: A History of the Roman Republic | Shakespeare

This 4-page pre-reading handout provides students with important background information for understanding William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. This resource includes a two-page handout on the history of the Roman Republic. The resource also included is a comprehension check and answer key so that teachers can assess whether students have understood important details from the handout.
Learning about the history of the Roman Republic will provide students with the contextual information necessary for understanding certain lines in Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. You could have students read this handout for homework before starting the play; or you could have students read the handout aloud together in class before giving them the comprehension check worksheet.

Hi fellow teachers
I often do scavenger hunts in grade 4 to 7 classrooms. I find them particularly useful when I’m feeling tired or lacking energy (hey, we’ve all been there).
Why do I like them?
It can look chaotic, but if observed you can see students really trying, really reading the information, and really collaborating and cooperating.
How it works:
There are two components:
My students are currently doing this very activity as I write!
The whole activity takes about 40 minutes and I might suggest watching a couple of Youtube videos on the topic to ‘get them in the mood.

Looking for a great way to introduce nonfiction text features to your class? Try this power point! Use it for a presentation, or print as a handout. It makes a great mini book when printed four to a page, cut apart, and then stapled together as a quarter page sized book! This power point about 17 different nonfiction text features (including two for the internet) is fully editable, meaning you can alter the text to fit your lessons, as well as scan and insert your own images instead of the ones I used, if you wanted to do so. In addition, you can easily delete the slides you don’t want, or duplicate a slide, then change the text / images to add different text features that you want to cover in your classroom. Information will present itself on a right click. For example, when you click for a new slide, the main definition and images for the text feature appear. As you click again, the first bulleted point will appear. The next click brings the next point, and so on. When October comes around, we all start seeing pumpkins and signs of Halloween. Carving pumpkins to make jack-o’-lanterns is a traditional Halloween activity. Do your students know the history of why pumpkins are carved?

Malcolm X gave the following TV interview in 1964, at time when violence against civil rights workers had escalated. Shocking images of protestors being beaten, clubbed, and tear-gassed had become staples of daily news coverage. Across the South, white supremacists tried to squelch the growing movement with murder, rifle attacks, bombings, and arson, crimes that frequently went unpunished. As attacks increased, many African Americans grew impatient with King’s nonviolent tactics, expressing anger that chilled white listeners.

SUMMARY:
Malcolm X gave the following TV interview in 1964, at time when violence against civil rights workers had escalated. Shocking images of protestors being beaten, clubbed, and tear-gassed had become staples of daily news coverage. Across the South, white supremacists tried to squelch the growing movement with murder, rifle attacks, bombings, and arson, crimes that frequently went unpunished. As attacks increased, many African Americans grew impatient with King’s nonviolent tactics, expressing anger that chilled white listeners.
This work prompts readers/citizens to change our communities, our societies, our world by politely defying our government.
This 10th - 12th grade canonized work allows students to understand the need for standing up for our rights when we feel we are treated unjustly by our own government.
