This resource is presented in an easy to use, kindergarten or first grade friendly format. Perfect to use after explicit instruction in the spelling pattern or irregularities associated with words that are sometimes not decodable!

Students use a variety of modalities to orthographically map the the word including:

• Read it in 2-3 easily decodable sentences

• Use in a sentence - A perfect way to introduce sentence stems!

This resource is perfect to use in ELA small group stations as it provides a visual reminder of what to do in each section for non-readers.

This cactus themed Color by CVC Word freebie is a preview of our full size Color by CVC Word units. This freebie comes with a "short a" puzzle featuring the words cat, mad, jam, and pan. Students can use the picture clue puzzle or the word clue puzzle. In the picture clue puzzle, students look at the picture of the word and then find the corresponding word to color. In the word clue puzzle, students have the CVC word to look at and find the matching word to color. No prep! Just print and go.

**This freebie comes with short a only, but the full units come with all five vowel families, each in two difficulty levels for 10 puzzles total.**

Letter sound fluency is an important foundational skill for reading success. This activity gives students a quick and engaging way to practice and improve their letter sound fluency. Students point to colorful grasshoppers along a path as they say the letter sounds. They can use the same strips repeatedly and work to increase their speed. This resource should accompany The Diary of Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett. Upper elementary, middle school, and high school students need reading fluency practice too, but we don't always think about it at these stages. This editable resource asks students to practice a passage directly from The Diary of Anne Frank and focus on accuracy, pace, expression, and punctuation. Students are asked to practice reading the passage to an adult. I have always had my students record themselves reading the passage at the end of a week, and I grade them using the same rubric that is on this assignment.
