This creative Art Room Gaming Badges Activity was designed to be printed and displayed as examples while you teach. Use this Google Slide file to display these beautiful images one-by-one on a large screen. *NOTE: this is a yearly event; it will take most of a full school year for any student to complete all 30 gaming badges…and that’s a good thing! *Students may try for any badge, in any order, however, students will want to start working on gaining easy gaming badges first, before trying to get the harder ones done. *Once students accomplish the criteria for a certain badge, either the teacher or the student may take colored pencils (only) to color the accomplished badge, so it looks similar to the completed version. *Move on to completing another great gaming badge. Self-control, also known as Self-Regulation, is about appropriately managing your thoughts, feelings, and impulses. Self-regulation is the ability to understand and manage your behavior, reactions, and emotions to things that happen around you. It starts with being consistently mindful of yourself and others.
Self-control (or self-regulation) is an important executive functioning life skill that students need to develop in order to help them:
★ regulate reactions to strong emotions like frustration, excitement, anger and embarrassment
★ calm down after something exciting or upsetting happens
★ control impulses
★ react and behave in ways that help them get along with other people
✅ This resource features 20 relevant Self-Control Scenarios followed by a question to get students to think about how they can manage their emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in these challenging situations. They are asked to explain how they would appropriately handle such situations.
✅ These fun, real-life Self-Control Scenarios allow students to discuss a variety of situations and brainstorm effective solutions to otherwise difficult situations. It's a great opportunity for students to reflect about their own behaviors and emotions in different social situations and consider strategies they can use to help them manage their emotions and respond appropriately. ✅ Each Task Card includes a scenario followed by a question.
✅ The Self-Control Scenario Task Cards can be used as part of a larger lesson, in guided small groups, whole-class discussions, partner discussion before sharing out with the larger group or class, or even one-on-one with a teacher, guidance counselor, or parent/guardian!
✅ You can print the Task Cards out on gloss paper or regular paper and laminate. You may also organize them in a binder ring.

✅ This resource also includes 20 Scenario WORKSHEETS with lines, so students can write their responses. Each worksheet includes a scenario followed by a question. Students write their responses on the lines provided.

How/When To Use the Scenario Task Cards
⭐ Role-Playing: Students can collaborate in pairs or groups to act out a variety of scenarios and demonstrate appropriate responses. Role-playing activities can also be used to demonstrate how to appropriately handle or navigate difficult situations associated with anger and self-control. Students can practice and learn the variety of ways they can handle situations that test their ability to control their actions and behaviors. This activity can ultimately improve confidence, communication, and assertiveness skills.
⭐ Icebreaker: This can be a great way to start a meeting, training session, or team-building activity. It’s also a great way to get students to get to know each other and buy into the purpose of an upcoming activity or lesson.
⭐ Play Writing Exercise: Students can work in groups to create skits or scenes then perform the skits for the class.
⭐ Writing Response: Students can be given a scenario to read and then write their responses. Students can switch papers with a partner who then reads their responses and determines whether they agree/disagree with their responses/approaches to these real-life scenarios/ situations. They can evaluate whether or not their approaches to solving problems (despite feelings of anger, frustration, betrayal, etc.) is appropriate or inappropriate and offer other possible solutions and/or suggestions on how to best handle difficult situations and cope with these emotions.
⭐ Discussion: Students can discuss the Scenario Task Cards in groups or whole class. They can discuss things like "What can you do to control your emotions, behavior, actions, etc.", "What healthy coping skills can you use to calm down in situations that make you angry?", etc.
