Group Creative Writing: Practice Character, Setting, Conflict, & Resolution
By E•Fish•ient Teaching
This is such a fun creative writing activity. This activity has students work in a small group to create a fun and unique story. They will be passing around their writing outline to their group of 5. The first student will choose a character and their characteristics. Then fold the paper down so the next student cannot see what they have written. Student 2 will decide the setting and then fold the paper down again. This will continue to student 3 and 4 where they will choose the conflict and the solution. Then the original student will get their paper back and open their paper and use their outline to create their own creative story. This makes the writing a little bit challenging as they try to create a story that was chosen by their fellow classmates. This can also be a super fun and creative way to expand students writing by stretching them a little outside their comfort zone.

Mother's Day Nonfiction Texts With STEM Challenge and Poetry
By Science and STEAM Team
This versatile resource is good for brightening someone's day on many occasions; Mother's Day and it is perfect for an end of the year "thank you!" Is there a special in your school you want to thank? Personally, I have the students brainstorm for all of the people that work for the school. Everyone takes one person and we brighten their day! We thank bus drivers, cafeteria workers, custodians, support staff, the principal, etc.
Your students will have lots of fun with this STEM challenge. First, they will read about six types of flowers. They will learn the characteristics of each flower, along with the meaning and what they symbolize. This is the perfect opportunity to talk about the job of the flower as well as various character traits. After reading, students will choose one flower to make given a set of guidelines. One of these guidelines is that the stem of the flower must be able to hold a letter or poem. Writing paper, directions for writing a diamante poem, and paper for the final copy of student's poetry are included.
