The bundle focuses on some of the greatest basketball players of all time: Michael Jordan, LeBron James & Steph Curry. The bundle contains three close reading activities about the individual players, three biography writing units, and a discussion based writing activity about who is the greatest basketball player of all time. There is also a crossword puzzle and wordsearch activity about each player. The activities are perfect for students in 3rd grade or 4th grade.

Firstly, there are three close reading activities, or informational texts, about:

• Michael Jordan
• Stephen Curry
• LeBron James

These activities require NO PREP and have a body of text that students need to read through thoroughly; then they can use the text to find the comprehension and grammar answers. All texts then have an extension activity, crossword puzzle and wordsearch for those fast finishers. Answers, for teacher use, are on the final page of each document.

Secondly, there are three biography writing units about the same players. The units have been split into four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each.

These are engaging and comprehensive units that allow your students to respond to the story by using a wide range of reading comprehension strategies and skills.

With comprehension questions and activities for each chapter the units can be followed chapter by chapter, with no extra preparation or planning required by the teacher. The responses in the unit have been planned and arranged so that your students will practise a wide range of comprehension strategies in context. Time allowance to complete each activity:

5-10 minutes - read through the text individually.

40-50 minutes - answer questions using the text as guidance (including extension activity)

Time allowance to assess each activity:

A class set of activities might take around 15-20 minutes to mark; the teacher can then send the students their marks automatically, which allows them to read back through their work. Nearly all answers are not automatically generated, but only require a small amount of work to assign points. This is because the aim is to get students writing answers and not to just have multiple choice options.

These activities require NO PREP and have a body of text that students need to read through thoroughly; then they can use the text to find the comprehension and grammar answers. All texts then have an extension activity for those fast finishers. Answers, for teacher use, are on the final page of each document.

Then, there are two biography writing units about George Washington and King George III, and two informational writing units about the War of Independence and the Boston Tea Party.
