Back to School Morning Meeting Slides Just Like Me Activity
By Professional Development and Teacher Prep
Are you looking for an engaging and meaningful way to kick off the school year with your students? The Just Like Me Back-to-School Morning Meeting Slides offer the perfect blend of fun and connection-building to help students start their day on a positive note. This activity fosters social and academic growth by allowing students to find common ground with their peers in a relaxed, interactive setting.
How the Just Like Me Activity Works: In this morning meeting activity, you display a slide with a question like, “Who has brown eyes like me?” Students who share that trait will stand up, look around, and see who else in the room is “just like them.” This simple yet powerful activity helps students build connections based on shared traits and experiences, promoting inclusion and a sense of belonging from the very first day.
Multiple Uses for the Just Like Me Activity:
Editable and Diverse Content: The Just Like Me Game includes over 20 editable slides featuring diverse and inclusive questions designed to engage all students. You can easily modify the questions to suit your classroom or add more slides if you want to extend the activity over multiple days. This flexibility allows you to tailor the activity to fit your students' unique interests and backgrounds, making the experience even more impactful.
Why It Works: The Just Like Me Activity is more than just a fun game—it creates an opportunity for students to identify shared experiences and build empathy. By discovering how much they have in common with their classmates, students develop stronger relationships, which leads to a more cohesive and supportive classroom environment. This sense of connection translates into greater participation and cooperation, setting the stage for a successful school year.
Benefits of Morning Meetings: As noted by the Responsive Classroom and Centervention, morning meetings are a powerful tool for setting the tone in your classroom. They help students transition from home to school, create a sense of community, and improve both social and academic outcomes. Morning meetings give students a chance to feel heard and seen, allowing them to feel more comfortable engaging with their peers and with the day’s learning activities.
What’s Included:
Sample Questions:
Fostering Connection and Conversation: The Just Like Me activity not only helps students find commonalities but also sparks meaningful conversations. After each question, consider taking a moment to ask follow-up questions that encourage students to share more about themselves. This deepens the discussions and allows for richer classroom interactions, promoting a stronger classroom community over time.
Get your classroom off to a great start with the Just Like Me Morning Meeting Slides, and watch your students grow both socially and academically!
