Kindergarten Reading Lesson (by date, latest first)

Guided Reading is a research-based instruction process whereby the teacher works with small grouping of students being equal in a particular reading achievement level. The teacher provides for each reader's development of effective reading competencies. However different than in the earlier days of reading groups, small and temporary groups are flexible and dynamic. The observance and evaluation of the progress of readers are done by teachers on a systematic basis. Thus, grouping and regrouping students is based on the strengths of students and the intense changing needs throughout their reading development.

In the 1960s in New Zealand, Guided Reading was developed. It was enhanced over the years after it arrived in the United States thanks to educators like Gay Su Pinnell and Lesley Fountas. In 1996, Fountas & Pinnell published their enormously influential book, Guided Reading: Good First Teaching for All Children (Heinemann). This book changed how reading was taught, and it is still taught today to over a million teachers worldwide. The aim of Guided Reading lessons is to develop effective readers.

A set of 13 books is bundled together with all 13 worksheets of the Guided Reading series for grades KG-12. There are lesson plans and different activities for every grade, with the answers in the end section of the worksheet.

Guided reading in Kindergarten involves tailored small group reading teaching. It certainly isn't the entire group. The small groups are formed according to the reading abilities of the students. It is very distinct and adaptable. Students are able to enter and exit groups as necessary. Every group utilizes leveled books chosen to cater to their specific requirements.

Developing a guided reading lesson plan may appear overwhelming. Nevertheless, if you divide it into components concentrating on your students’ requirements, the methods you will demonstrate, and the text you will utilize, it becomes significantly easier to handle. Your lesson plans will encompass an objective outlining the strategies you'll teach, vocabulary work, an introduction to the book, the reading of the book, comprehension questions, and activities to follow the reading. If you prefer not to design your own, there are numerous lesson plan templates available for selection.

Write a story about what happens when a mitten is lost in the snow.

Imagine you are a polar bear. What would your day be like?

Create your own story pages feature 3 winter words (such as mittens, hat, ear muffs etc). Students will use those words to write a story, then they will illustrate their story.

Winter words chart and winter word wall words feature 12 winter themed words in both color and black and white. Place these in a writing center along with the blank (no prompts) writing pages so students can free write using winter words!

Using this "Got it!" system takes less than 30 seconds, is exciting for students, and can be done completely independently! Build it in during transitions, centers time, large or small group instruction.

Student push the sounds button (I use these ones), hear the skill sequence, repeat the sequence while pointing to the card left to right , and then give the hand a high five and say "Got it!"
