$10 - $20 Measurement Independent Work Packet

This project combines 10 mathematical concepts into a hands-on project - building a 3-D strawberry box. The project involves the math of carpentry, dietetics, sales, and data analysis. The math topics involved include:

• The Theorem of Pythagoras
• Geometrical Problem Solving
• Elementary addition, subtraction, multiplication and division with lengths, money etc.
• Volume of prisms
• Ratio, Proportion, Percents, Fractions
• Internet research for appropriate formulas
• Mathematics by trial and error
•  Mathematics should be practical whenever it is at all possible.

Included is a link to a Google Sheet where students can ...

• experience how to "code" how to buy the right amount of wood at the cheapest price.
• make some selections of different lengths of wood to get the best price.
