This is a great option for early finishers, review over South America, an assignment that can be left for a substitute, or a worksheet that can be quickly copied and distributed to students when you're in a pinch.

The students will use the clues to figure out which South American country they are visiting.

I designed this with the intention that students do online research and have access to a map of the region.

Students will look at Social Studies through a different lens:

Students will research the different occupational uses for social studies specifically in from the lenses (the fields) of:

• historian
• geographer
• political scientist
• social scientist
• economist
• anthropologist
• archaeologist
• health scientist

Students will use their research to write a supporting question from the point of view of their assigned lens. This is great practice to find the usefulness of social studies along a variety of fields. Students will be given a compelling question dealing with indigenous peoples in the United States from which to craft their supporting question.

Students will also be able to put their own stamp on their infographic by adding creative touches. This is true for both the print and digital version of this activity.

Follow up questions are great for early finishers, written assignment, or class discussion.

In this lesson, students learn about famous photographers and their work. Students choose a photographer of interest (on their own or from a provided list) and then research specific information about them, creating a presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint or Google Slides. Teacher and student resources are provided for the lesson, along with full instructions and project expectation, including a grading rubric. A list of famous photographers is included separately for student choice (or students can choose a photographer of interest on their own). In this lesson, students learn more about famous structures and landmarks in Seattle, Washington and the individuals who created them. Students choose the landmarks they will research and then create a presentation using Google Earth to showcase their information along with pictures, videos and maps. Included with the lesson are student expectations, grading rubric and a tutorial for Google Earth (a free, Web 2.0 tool that does not require download). For classrooms with limited technology, this lesson can be completed with students working in pairs or small groups. The completed presentations can be shared with the rest of the class if the teacher chooses.

This is a great activity for a social studies or history class, or for a technology class. This lesson was designed for middle school (grades 6-8) but could be used in upper elementary grades or high school as well.

Materials Required:

· Computers with Internet access for each student (or pair of students)

· Access to Microsoft PowerPoint or Google Slides (optional – students can use Web 2.0 tools instead)

Approximate Lesson Duration:

· Introduction to the Lesson: Video (link below), overview of the project - .5 - 1 (50 minute) class period

· Presentation of projects to class (optional): Time will vary based on how many presentations are shown and time for discussion

This lesson is great for distance learning/remote learning. You can upload it to your school's learning management system (Google Classroom, Edmodo, Canvas, etc.) or share with students via Google Drive.

This is a lesson designed to bring the ‘Five Themes of Geography’ to life! Students will go beyond the mere rote memorization of these themes, but will explore and apply each of these themes to an eye opening example found in the REAL WORLD; whether it be a tribal man’s adaptive ability to hold his breath for an extended amount of time while deep sea hunting, to the ancient Roman’s impressive engineering skills in constructing the famous waterway system known as the aqueducts.

The Slide Presentation will guide your students through an exciting journey of the five themes. This interactive lesson is designed to teach the concepts, and then quiz students of their understanding of each theme, and finally a more comprehensive assessment takes place at the end of the lesson.
