Using primary sourced drawings and photographs, the gallery walk begins in Africa, and moves through slavery, the Reconstruction and Jim Crow, and carries on to present-day issues. This lesson will vicariously draw your students into the lives, circumstances, and struggle for social justice of the past and today as they engage in the analysis of primary sources. This unique resource will bring the photographs to life as students will be provided with additional background information that will come in the form of first hand accounts and testimonies of the people who experienced the injustices, and were also social agents of change.

Engage your students in having them draw important connections between the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960’s and contemporary grassroots movements taking place in the United States.
