CONTEXT CLUES is an important skill that students must master in order to improve and enhance their comprehension of texts. When coming across an unknown word, a student can use other words in the text that are usually in the same sentence or nearby sentences that provide clues to the meaning of the unfamiliar word. This skill is especially important for students to apply not only on state exams, but to any text or reading they come across.

This Context Clues Bundle provides a variety of fun opportunities for students to learn how to use context clues to determine the meanings of unknown words as they read.

The bundle includes an in-depth step-by-step lesson plan that carefully guides teachers in showing students “HOW TO” both identify and use different context clues types to figure out the meaning of unknown words. The bundle also includes Reading Passages, PowerPoints, Practice Worksheets, Fun Activities, Task Cards, Assessments, Posters, ANSWER KEYS, and more!

This resource focuses on the following five Context Clues types:

✨ Definition clues

✨ Synonym clues

✨ Antonym clues

✨ Example clues

✨ Inference clues

All PowerPoints, Worksheets, and Posters are visually appealing as they include a variety of fun and realistic graphics, borders, and background paper. Students will be attentive and engaged throughout the entire learning experience!

The PowerPoints cannot be edited due to copyright requirements made by contributing font and clip art artists.

DESCRIPTION

Students always need additional support in mastering the skill of inferencing. You can use these two sets of 16 Freak The Mighty Multiple-Choice Inference Task Cards to help students practice making inferences.

▶️ Inference Task Cards

✅ The first set of 16 Inference Task Cards consists of a short selection/passage from the book followed by an inference-based question. There are four multiple choice answers choices that students choose from. Students read the passage and choose the correct answer. Students will need to pay close attention to details to choose the correct answer. The inference questions are centered around character traits, character relationships, and situations.

✅ A Student Answer Sheet is included for students to write their answers.

✅ The second set of 16 Inference Task Cards are the actual “Answer Key” set of the first set of Task Cards. The Answer Key set of Task Cards highlight the correct multiple-choice answers in the color red and highlights relevant evidence that supports the correct answers in the color yellow.

✅ This is engaging practice for your students as it is perfect for mini-lessons, whole class instruction, cooperative learning, intervention groups, literacy centers, and small group instruction.

▶️ Test Format Version (Print and Digital)

✅ Also included is a "Test Format" version of the Inference Task Cards (same passages in the Task Cards). This includes an ANSWER KEY as well! The test consists of 16 multiple-choice inference questions.

▶️ Inference Graphic Organizer (Print and Digital)

✅ One-page Three-Column Graphic Organizer Chart that requires students to make evidence-based inferences. Students record the following information in the Inference Graphic Organizer: Information from the text, their own Prior/Background Knowledge, and Inferences. This is a great scaffolding tool for ELL and Special Ed students.

▶️ Inference Bookmarks

✅ These bookmarks include sentence stems consistent with making inferences. Students can reference these inference stems to stimulate their thinking, increase comprehension, and actively engage in reading and discussion. Students can also use these inference stems in their writing! These bookmarks can be used to support reading comprehension in any text.

Suggestions on how you can use the Multiple-Choice Inference Task Cards:

Quiz or Test - You can make a copy of the set of Task Cards and distribute to each student as a quiz or test. You, as the teacher , can then select the Task Card Inference question that students performed the lowest on and use that to review and develop/modify your instruction.

Small Group Instruction - You can have students engage in small group instruction where you provide additional support on the skill of inferencing. These Inference Task Cards will support that type of instruction. You can have all students in small groups practice with the same inference task card question number or you can distribute 1-2 Task Cards to each student to practice, then review.

Mini Lesson - You can load these Inference Task Cards on the Smartboard and use them to demonstrate how to make an inference. They can also be used to discuss the importance of details and how they are used to encourage inferential thinking. You can even use these Task Cards to discuss the difference between relevant details and irrelevant details. Finally, you can use these Inference Task Cards during the guided practice portion of your lesson.

Formative Assessment / Exit Slips - These Inference Task Cards make a great, quick formative assessment! You can easily check for understanding by distributing 1-2 Task Cards to each student to complete. You can circulate the room to do a "Quick Check" to see if students "Got it." You can also use these Task Cards as Exit Slips by distributing 1-2 Task Cards to each student to complete and hand in to you before they leave.

Partner Study - You can have students pair up and “test each other.” Partners not only ask each other to choose the correct multiple-choice answer, but to highlight or underline specific details in the selection/passage to support their inference-based answer. The Answer Key set of Task Cards are helpful in the sense that students can take ownership of reviewing the correct answers and sharing that with their partners**.**

Test Prep Review - You can use these Task Cards to review how to answer multiple-choice questions. You can also use these cards to teach students a variety of multiple-choice strategies (process of elimination, context clues, textual evidence, tone, etc.) to help them select the right answers to questions and aid comprehension.

********************************

DESCRIPTION

Students always need additional support in mastering the skill of inferencing. You can use the Lord of the Flies Multiple-Choice Inference Task Cards to help students practice making inferences.

Task Cards

  • The first set of 16 Inference Task Cards consists of a short selection/passage from the book followed by an inference-based question. There are four multiple choice answers choices that students choose from. Students read the passage and choose the correct answer. Students will need to pay close attention to details to choose the correct answer. The inference questions are centered around character traits, character relationships, and situations. A Student Answer Sheet is included for students to write their answers.

  • The second set of 16 Inference Task Cards is the actual “Answer Key” set. The Answer Key set of Task Cards highlight the correct multiple-choice answers in the color red and highlights relevant evidence that supports the correct answers in the color yellow.

  • This is engaging practice for your students as it is perfect for mini-lessons, whole class instruction, cooperative learning, intervention groups, literacy centers, and small group instruction.

Test Format Version (Print and Digital)

  • Also included is a "Test Format" version of the Inference Task Cards (same passages in the Task Cards). This includes an ANSWER KEY as well! The test consists of 16 multiple-choice inference questions.

Inference Graphic Organizer (Print and Digital)

  • Included is a one-page Three-Column Graphic Organizer Chart that requires students to make evidence-based inferences. Students record the following information in the Inference Graphic Organizer: Information from the text, their own Prior/Background Knowledge, and Inferences. This is a great scaffolding tool for ELL and Special Ed students.

Inference Bookmarks

  • These bookmarks include sentence stems consistent with making inferences.

1. Quiz or Test - You can make a copy of the set of Task Cards and distribute to each student as a quiz or test. You, as the teacher , can then select the Task Card Inference question that students performed the lowest on and use that to review and develop/modify your instruction.

6. Test Prep Review - You can use these Task Cards to review how to answer multiple-choice questions. You can also use these cards to teach students a variety of multiple-choice strategies (process of elimination, context clues, textual evidence, tone, etc.) to help them select the right answers to questions and aid comprehension.

Drawing Conclusions Questions, Making Inferences Questions, Inferences

Drawing Conclusions Questions, Making Inferences Questions, Inferences

This resource is also included in the following discounted Bundles:

  • Inference BUNDLE
  • All ELA Mega Bundle
  • ELA/SEL MEGA BUNDLE

**********************************

ABOUT THIS RESOURCE

  • Drawing Conclusions / Making Inferences
  • 33 pages
  • Includes 44 Questions
  • PDF Zip File
  • Suitable for Middle School Students
  • Can be used for any text!

This resource includes:

------ 44 COLORED Drawing Conclusions Question TASK CARDS

------ 44 B&W Drawing Conclusions Question TASK CARDS

------ 44 Drawing Conclusions Question STRIPS

------ List of Questions (Easy access for teachers)

**********************************

Drawing conclusions refers to information that is implied or inferred. Students use important textual information to make meaning out of what is not clearly stated by authors/writers. Writers give readers hints or clues that help them “read between the lines,” since not everything is explicitly stated. Drawing conclusions enables students to move beyond simple decoding.

Drawing Conclusions is an important skill students need to master to enhance their comprehension of texts and “think outside the box.” Drawing conclusions is not only used in content areas, but also in problem solving, and in social interactions.

This resource features a combination of 44 Drawing Conclusions questions and question stems that cover the topics of character, setting, events, author, and quote analysis. They can be used as writing prompts, discussion/debate questions, or both! These Task Cards and Question Stem Strips can be used in a variety of ways and would make an AMAZING supplement to any lesson.

DESCRIPTION

  • 44 Drawing Conclusions Question TASK CARDS - These Drawing Conclusions Question Task Cards can be used as part of a larger lesson, in guided small groups, whole-class discussions, partner discussion before sharing out with the larger group or class, writing prompt activities, formative assessment during or after reading, journal-writing, or even one-on-one with a teacher or parent/guardian! You can print the Task Cards out on gloss paper or regular paper and laminate. You may also organize them in a binder ring.

  • 44 Drawing Conclusions Question Strips - These sentence question strips are beautifully created and feature the same Drawing Conclusion questions in the Task Cards. They can be cut, distributed, and used in many ways including distributing one or two to each student to think about, share their thinking and responses with a partner, or you can simply randomly choose a question strip and call on student to answer - Be creative!

  • LIST of Drawing Conclusions Questions
Also included is a 2-page LIST of Drawing Conclusion questions/question stems to allow easier access for teachers to read and select questions to work with. It’s like an overview page of the Drawing Conclusion questions listed in the Task Cards and Strips.

Lesson plans are not included. These Drawing Conclusion Question Task Cards can be used in addition to your own lesson plans and in such a way that best meets the needs of your students.

Task Cards and Stem Strip Ideas

  • Have students practice questioning by completing the question stems.
  • Set up literacy centers with different short stories or passages. Students can use the task cards before, during, and after reading.
  • Organize students in small groups or pairs and have them go back and forth asking and answering questions orally.
  • Lead a guided reading group to discuss specific task cards with students in need or who have shown difficult mastering the skill.
  • Go around the room and have students randomly select a task card for them and their partner to answer. They will discuss, write, and present their response to the class.
