Spring Robin WebQuest and Build a Bird Nest STEM Challenge

This is a highly engaging science WebQuest about robins. Students will be able to read, listen to bird calls, and watch short video clips while learning about robins. It is paired with a Make a Bird Nest STEM challenge. Students will need to gather natural materials and build a nest meeting several mathematical criteria: including width, height, and weight. There are three worksheets that can be completed along with specific instructions for the challenge, and an engineering and design process recording sheet.

In this lesson, students learn about the history of Parent’s Day as they complete a WebQuest (Internet Scavenger Hunt) to answer questions about the topic. A complete answer key is provided for easy grading, along with resources for both teachers and students. Two versions of the WebQuest are included to let teachers print the questions or to provide them digitally as an interactive page in an editable Microsoft PowerPoint file. Next, they create a greeting card using Adobe Express (free, online software). A tutorial is included for the project, along with student expectations/instructions and a grading rubric. Additionally, a word search puzzle (with answer key) is included to use for early finishers or as a part of the lesson.

In this lesson, students learn about the history of Grandparent’s Day as they complete a WebQuest (Internet Scavenger Hunt) to answer questions about the topic. This resource includes 5 different "stations" that could be done as a whole class activity, or more like traditional ELL and math learning centres.
There are two reading pages included to help students better understand binary coding and block coding.
The coding "challenge journal” has been tested with students in grades 4-7. Each task provided students with enough challenge that the tasks could be completed in two 40-50 minute periods. Students are asked reflective questions in each of the tasks.

Using the Engineering Design Process is one of the most basic ideas in the CTAE classroom. Whether your building robots, designing engineering projects or both, this activity will get the entire class engaged on one activity!
You have discovered a Radioactive Boulder in your town! Your town must work together to create a series of LEGO devices to move the boulder out of town.
Students design and build a project that will move a LEGO ball across the desktops in the classroom. Once the ball begins its journey across the tabletops, it can not be touched by human hands.
