I personally use these texts with Grade 1 and Grade 2 students in French Immersion. I feel confident that students from Kindergarten to Grade Three will find these most useful and teachers can come back to the texts with any students who may be experiencing challenges in their French reading skills. Core French teachers will be sure to add the resource to their repertoire for Grades 4 to 6 as they learn to read and write at the Junior level.

French Decodable texts BUNDLE that aligns with the Science of Reading are a NO PREP printable activity for the K-2 French classroom. Students practice endoding and decoding skills and build confidence in reading.

Make a few copies of each text and insert into clear pockets to create a quick and easy reading centre; arrange a table with four copies to create a quiet reading group; use one-on-one with your students to assess reading levels, to gain insights to their decoding skills, and to inform your upcoming lesson plans. Need a creative way for students to learn which verbs use être as a helping verb in the passé composé? This engaging French lesson includes an original story with comprehensive listening, reading, and writing activities. After this lesson, your students will know and understand the 17 Dr. & Mrs. P. Vandertramp verbs. Here's a fun game that you can use to have your students practice conjugating these verbs.

EXPECT YOUR STUDENTS TO:

• identify verbs that use être as a helping verb
• strengthen listening comprehension at their level
• remember to make agreement on past participles
• learn new vocabulary by reading in French
• be amused by this creative story

STEP 1:

• Download, print, and distribute the Dr. & Mrs. P. Vandertramp chart.
• 17 verbs that use être as a helping verb are written in French with English translations.
• Past participles are included.

STEP 2:

• Listen to an audio recording of an original story that uses all 17 verbs that use être in the passé composé to work on listening comprehension, and to see how much students can understand.
• Download worksheet #1 and have students fill in the blanks (subjects, helping verbs, and past participles) as they listen to the story again.
• Download, print, and distribute the full text (2 pages) and have students read along as they listen again.
• Download worksheet #2 and have students fill in the blanks (helping verbs and past participles only - subjects and infinitives are included) NOT while listening to the story. 

STEP 3:

• Dictée - Listen to the audio recording and have students write everything they hear on the lines provided.
• This is a good exercise in listening comprehension, and they'll need to pay close attention to number and gender to spell the past participles correctly.
• Subject pronouns along with number and gender are included on the student response sheet.
• As they listen, they will write helping verbs and past participles.

This 71-page no-prep, no planning document has everything you need to introduce your students to geography, cartography, mapping and navigation - En Français!

This cross-curricular pedagogical document will provide you with a 37-page slide deck, complete with terms, definitions, examples, discussion prompts, images, games and activities. Need a fun way to introduce French poetry and review the passé composé at the same time? Your students will enjoy Déjeuner du Matin, Jacques Prévert, an engaging lesson that will save you loads of time. Differentiation is easy with this lesson that includes all four skills - reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

The poem Déjeuner du Matin is spectacularly well known in France, and it's especially easy to understand when you follow all of the steps in this lesson plan.

Expect your students to:

• learn new French vocabulary words
• practice the passé composé - regular, irregular, and reflexive verbs
• gain knowledge of French literature, especially Jacques Prévert
• begin to understand French culture through poetry
• explore and identify emotions in French
• make inferences before even reading the poem
• sharpen listening skills
• work on oral production
• write a short paragraph about the poem in their own words

How to use this resource:

• Watch an award winning 3 minute silent short film with your students.

• Students write what they think the poem is about after watching the video.

• Students identify what they felt while watching using French adjectives of emotion.

• A quizlet vocabulary study set is provided to share with your students.

• Watch another video in which students will watch and hear the poem being read.

Having trouble visualizing how to "break down" math concepts and how to structure your teaching? New to this grade level or unfamiliar with "how" to teach it? Tired of passing out worksheets? Imagine math classes that require zero prep, zero paper, zero planning, and slides which not only prompt your students to engage, discuss, solve and prove their understanding, but prompt you to teach concepts at a slow, realistic pace! This was created (and used!) for students in grades 5-7 and works great for older students on IEPs, students en adaptation scolaire, as revision for older grades, or for online learning. Partner work and independent work are imbedded in the slides. Students receive many guided explanations so they can work independently.

  • A collaborative, discussion-based activity on how charts would change if there were added values, added categories, etc.
  • Independent practice creating a bar chart using data about cereal preferences.
