A Google Forms reading comprehension bundle with ten individual activities about key events in April or famous figures that were either born or died in the month. The activities, which come in PDF format too, have an informational text with comprehension and grammar questions followed by an extension task, are about the following people or topics:

• The Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, where construction began on the famous wonder on the 4th April 1922.
• King Richard the Lionheart of England, who died on the 6th April 1199 after being hit with a crossbow whilst on siege.
• The United States Entering World War I, which happened on the 6th April 1917.
• The American Civil War, which began on the 12th April 1865, when the Confederacy attacked Fort Sumter.
• The war-time president, Franklin Roosevelt, who died on the 12th April 1945, just months before the end of World War II

Time allowance to complete each activity:

5-10 minutes - read through the text individually.

40-50 minutes - answer questions using the text as guidance (including extension activity)

Time allowance to assess:

A class set of activities might take around 15-20 minutes to mark; the teacher can then send the students their marks automatically, which allows them to read back through their work. Nearly all answers are not automatically generated, but only require a small amount of work to assign points. This is because the aim is to get students writing answers and not to just have multiple choice options.

Three great activities that would span six lessons and a great classroom display about World War 1. Great for class work, distance learning or home schooling. Perfect for students in fifth grade or sixth grade studying about World History or U.S. History.

Firstly, there is a great classroom display and sorting activity that is perfect for introducing students to some of the key events from the World War I. There are 30 posters or task cards that include many of the key figures and events from the time period.

Secondly, there is a close reading activity - children need to read through an informational text, and then answer comprehension and grammar questions, before completing an extension activity.

Finally, there is a informational text writing unit. The unit has been split into three separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each. Ideal for students learning about the First World War.

• The Indus Valley Civilization
• Siddhartha Gautama & the Birth of Buddhism
• The Birth of Hinduism
• Ashoka the Great
• The Taj Mahal

These activities require NO PREP and have a body of text that students need to read through thoroughly; then they can use the text to find the comprehension and grammar answers. All texts then have an extension activity, a crossword and a wordsearch for those fast finishers. Answers, for teacher use, are on the final page of each document.

Then, there are two biography writing units about Ashoka the Great and Siddhartha Gautama. The units have been split into four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each.

Then, there is an informational writing unit about Ancient India. The unit has again been split into three or four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each.

Finally, there is an opinion writing unit about who was the most influential figure from the history of India: Ashoka the Great, Siddhartha Gautama or the more recent - Mahatma Gandhi. This unit has again been split into three or four separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each.
