Once Upon a Crime - ELA Debate Argument Unit
By Blooming Through High School
My students had so much fun doing this, they didn't want it to end! Four Disney villains are being brought to court with charges and your students will either prosecute or defend them in "court":
Ursula - The Little Mermaid: Fraud & Exploitation
Scar - The Lion King: Manslaughter & Environmental Crimes
Gaston - Beauty & The Beast: Attempted Murder & Inciting a Riot
Lady Tremaine - Cinderella: Emotional Abuse/Neglect & Exploitation
Assign your students to be prosecutors and defenders with their own custom files. Each team has their own responsibilities and will need to craft their argument well to win the judge & jury.
-Reinforce learning of claim, support, point of view and more!
- Students need to support their claims with facts from the movie. Perfect for an argumentative unit!
*Lesson has been adapted with extensive sentence stems and examples. Teacher made examples are also included. This is a scaled activity that all students can do without too much teacher intervention.

Painting Art: Stained-Glass Tree. Fall/Autumn.
By Art Shack by JB
This creative Stained-Glass Tree Painting Unit was designed to be printed and displayed as examples while you teach. Use this Google Slide file to display these beautiful images one-by-one on a large screen. For this assignment, I asked students to practice drawing different trees. Next, I taught students how to draw a tree that has branches extending to the edge of the paper. I demonstrated how to outline and fill in the tree. Students created their own stained-glass tree artwork on Final Copy Paper. Students outlined and colored their artwork. Students used mostly watercolor paints for their artwork. I hope you and your kiddos love this! Enjoy.
Painting Art: Dragons & Castles. Fall/Autumn.
By Art Shack by JB
This creative Dragons & Castles Scene was designed to be printed and displayed as examples while you teach. Use this Google Slide file to display these beautiful images one-by-one on a large screen. For this assignment, I asked students to brainstorm a dragons & castle drawing inside their sketchbook. Foreground, middle ground, and background were emphasized throughout the 4–5-day unit. I asked students to lightly redraw the composition onto watercolor paper. I asked students to paint the larger areas first and paint the dragon and details last. I hope you and your kiddos love this! Enjoy.

How can you use these task cards?
Have the task cards available in makerspaces, centers, tubs, busy boxes, morning baskets, or available for early finishers to complete using ANY available materials. Students can even draw their creations instead of building them!
Use one card a day during morning time. Have students fill out a STEAM / STEM worksheet or discuss and use the Google Slides as a class.
Use them for public speaking practice. Allow students to build and then show and tell with the class or their parents. They can discuss what they made, liked, what they would improve, and how it solved the problem on the task cards. They can practice speaking and listening skills, using loud and clear voices, and giving full attention to the speaker. Encourage students to ask questions to their classmates.
Ideally the goal is to do one challenge a day, but you could certainly allow students to do more than one.
**********************************************************
Why do I think you will love this product, and what makes my challenge set unique?
I love silly stories that bring humor and adventure to life for kids, but also that force them to use their imaginations in fun and exciting ways. This challenge task set does exactly that through the loose wacky stories where they are the main character. Silly scenarios, adventure and disaster, problem solving, and learning, are all part of the experience when building these challenges.
Most building challenge task cards are independent from each other. “Build a boat,” or “build an airplane,” are common themes among the cards. While those are fantastic, and we have done many of them ourselves, I wanted to do something different and more cohesive and engaging for kids.
The only rule is to HAVE FUN and allow those imaginations to soar!
**Please note that while the intent is for these to be independent, early readers may need some assistance in reading the cards.**
**This is not an editable document.**

Are you looking for a different approach to using the Scientific Method/ Engineering Design Process? “Can They Do That?” is a "TV-show type" series that presents things made in the movies/television and challenges the students to prove or disprove "Can They Do That?" This first episode looks at a hot air balloon contraption built out of hair dryers and trash bags on the A-Team.
Students start the lesson by watching a clip from a TV show (included in PowerPoint). They are presented with a “problem” by the TV Show Host and then they work through the EDP.
This lesson includes the Video Introduction embedded in a PowerPoint with a Student Handout that guides students research, prototype and solution.
