Come along on this journey of building and rebuilding as hedgehog has to maneuver around the log to create a new home! Use the steady beat chant to have your students chant along as hedgehog tries to move the log. At the end of the story, have students in grades 1 or 2 complete the worksheet by decoding the rhythms to the words found in the story. For grades PreK-2nd.

Are you ready to introduce (or reintroduce-let’s face it, we all know they forget from year to year) your students to the captivating world of the Elements of Music? Then you’ll enjoy the Elements of Music Vocabulary Mystery Word Match Activity! This engaging lesson is designed to help students familiarize themselves with some essential music vocabulary associated with the elements of music in a fun and interactive way. We all know that students generally love games so they’ll enjoy the gamification of this activity. As they match vocabulary words with their definitions, they’ll discover some letters that they will need to unscramble to find a mystery word.

Activity Overview:

In this activity, students will match vocabulary words to their corresponding definitions related to the elements of music. Each correct match will reveal a letter, allowing students to unscramble and discover the mystery word. This interactive feature adds an extra layer of excitement and challenges to the vocabulary learning experience.

Included in this Activity:

With this activity you will get an interactive worksheet with some words related to the elements of music (e.g., Elements of Music, Duration, Pitch, Dynamics, Timbre, Texture/Harmony, Form and Tempo) and the corresponding definitions and explanations for each mystery word.

When students have completed and found the mystery word, you can provide them with a blank template and have them find additional words related to the elements of music and their corresponding definitions so that they can create their own. You can use this for earlier finishers, as an extension activity or to dig a little deeper for everyone into the elements of music.

This package includes 4 tasks to get your students thinking about their musical choices. What Is Included: Task 1: Create Your Apple Playlist Task 2: Descriptive Paragraph About Your Playlist Task 3: Cover Art Design Task 4: Reflection Questions (Equity and Inclusivity) Rubric I typically give this assignment out at the beginning of the school year to get to know my student’s taste in music. It takes between 4-6 periods to complete and is appropriate for grade 5-8. Please note: This assignment works best if you are able to access Apple Music. As a teacher, you could always set up a free account to show to your students or ask your students if any of them already have it and would be willing to show the class how it works. Spend some time and show them how to use it if you have access to it. You can also see some demos from the Apple website. If you do not subscribe to Apple Music, I highly recommend it. You can still use this assignment without Apple Music with your students and they can reflect on the inclusivity of the playlist that they create. TIPS: 1. This is a great back to school activity to get to know your students in music class: Music: Getting To Know You Questionnaire and Your Ideal Music Classroom (Back to School Activity). The questionnaire is a chance for you to get to know your students and their experiences in music. I use this for grade 6-8. The second part of this activity is for students to design their ideal music classroom. Typically I pair this activity with my Apple Curator Assignment which can be found here: https://www.TeachShare.com/Product/Apple-Music-Curator-Playlist-Assignment-Great-for-Back-to-School-2739247 These two activities will usually take the better part of September to complete. This project is designed for students to create their own original artist/band and to market their newly formed artist(s). It is appropriate for middle school students (grad 6-8) and is always a crowd pleaser!

Students submit a band/artist portfolio which includes a profile about their artist/band, a concert poster, album cover art, and a jingle. The jingle can be performed using an instrumental track to a piece that they enjoy. Included are some examples of products that they could write a jingle about. A rubric for assessment purposes is included and you could even extend this project further by creating an art assessment piece for the album cover art and concert poster.

This assignment typically takes approximately 5-10 classes to complete, from introducing it to completing the final jingle performances. It is handy to have students to complete a rough copy of their work before submitting their good copy to ensure their best quality work is submitted.

Do you need engaging activities for snow days? This listening bundle has a mix of brain breaks, bell ringers, and mindfulness activities! You can easily add classical music to your lessons or sub plans.

Just print and cue the music! Students begin listening and interpreting what they hear and feel. The music is available on YouTube or your favorite streaming services. There are no wrong answers, and no musical training is required. (great for sub plans!) There are five differentiated listening sheets included for each piece of music.
