Lightning Violin 2013 (Part 2)
By Jason Litt
Here's the follow-up to the 2012 Lightning Violin! (link below) http://www.TeachShare.com/Product/Lightning-Violin-Learn-How-to-Play-Violin-478845 This is a curriculum I use in grades 3, 4, and 5. We have a full set of violins at our school and we learn notation, rhythms, and notes through an original curriculum called "Lightning Violin". The students all learn the songs together and then an individual student plays the song by themselves for assessment. If they play it correctly, I give them a "bolt" on their chart (which I save in powerpoint). It gets very competitive and the students really respond well and practice as hard as they can to get their next bolt. This particular version focuses on learning the rhythms and notes without the aid of fingering charts or letters, which makes it a bit more challenging for students who have relied on that in the past. There are a few review slides before the songs that ensures students have everything they need to complete the program! It goes a little slower, but it's scaffolding made easy (White Belt is the easiest, Rainbow Belt the most challenging) Included with this are 9 mp3 files accompaniments (with a cool hip hop piano background!) along with the powerpoint in PDF format. Kids LOVE it! Let me know if you have any questions and I'll be happy to answer them!
By Jason Litt
11 great orchestral tracks to warmup your Chorus! These original choral warmups range from G below middle C to High Bb above the staff and reinforce vowel sounds, diction, and extension of range. Fun orchestral sounds add on to the piano and descriptions are given on all powerpoint slides. Included are 11 files in mp3 format to accompany your students.
By Jason Litt
Get your class on beat! Included are 6 background tracks with ethnic flair -- tablas, djembes, bongos, and more ethnic percussion from Asia, India, and South America. The 6 tracks are at approximately 120bpm and also have a faster 142bpm just in case you want to get things really moving! (12 tracks total) I use these in my class for Orff, Boomwhacker, Rhythm Sticks, Dancing, Movement, or singing activities. The tracks go for about 2 minutes each and there's about 18 minutes worth of drum music in the ZIP file Have fun!
Boomin' Whackin', Fun ain't Lackin'
By Jason Litt
10 original compositions for the Boomwhackers that will reinforce all of your great teachings! All arrangements are an 8.5 x 11 PDF which can be projected on a whiteboard, IWB, or printed out for student use Each colorful arrangement uses the 1 octave C diatonic scale of the boomwhackers and each piece focuses on a specific trait, tailored to meet the needs of your students. The pieces are as follows with their specific role: Boom n' Roll - Tremelos/Rolls/Whole Note Durations Boom Sneak Boom - Grouped Eighth Notes and Rests C it and Hear it! - C diatonic scale Variations Dynamically Boomed - Forte and Piano switches Grow n' Go - Crescendos across 1 and 2 measure phrases Legend of the Eighth Engine - Eighth Notes and Subdivision Plastic Jam Op. 2016 - Melodies, Intervals, and Chords Riders of the Boom - Melodic Direction and Sequencing The Boom Room - Arpeggios and Chords The Rest Tests - Counting Quarter Note Rests Tempi is completely up to you! Each arrangement is 20 measures long (after 2 repeats) and includes boomwhacker notation and color on a treble clef staff, which are easy to read large print. A background percussion track has been included, but do not be hesitant to include your own (or use classroom instruments!) Enjoy these arrangements, Boomwhacker enthusiasts!
By Jason Litt
Included are some pretty hefty Orff arrangements for your advanced groups! On the powerpoint, all arrangements are color coded and marked with letters for easy rote teaching. The first arrangement is a piece called "The Zoo" which is 8 measures long and is intended to be repeated. The bass has a bordoun in the beginning and splits into a bass line in the second part. The alto provides chords and the soprano the melody The second arrangement, Untitled, has a lovely assortment of indepenent parts and a haunting E minor intro section. The next section gets more rhythmic in the sopranos as the alto takes over the melody along with the bass Enjoy these advanced arrangements!
I Want You Back, Jackson Five (BUCKET DRUMMING!)
By Jason Litt
More on the hit list with your bucket drumming kids, we present Jackson Five's hit song from 1969, "I Want You Back"!
There are four all-color coded slides along with the form identifiers listed next to each phrase. Discuss form with the students and teach them (by rote) the rhythms on the powerpoint with the corresponding repeats (most are repeated 3 times). Then, apply it to drums!
All regular notation is to be played on the buckets (or drums, or ground, however you wish), and the X notation that is stacked with quarter notes are played as shots (think like a marching band snare drum -- playing the drum and stick simultaneously as a rimshot or on top of each other -- whatever will you get you the best accent!)
Here's the track so you can play along...
