Why do you need this?

This activity encourages children to consider weather conditions and how they affect clothing choices. By engaging in the task, students develop an understanding of the importance of dressing appropriately for various weather conditions.

Teaching children about weather-appropriate clothing fosters practical life skills and promotes independence. By learning to choose suitable attire for different weather conditions, students develop self-care skills and prepare themselves for daily activities both at school and in their daily lives.

How and when might you use this?

Teachers can integrate the activity book into a weather-themed unit or lesson. Teachers can then provide the Cut and Stick activity for children to apply their understanding by selecting appropriate clothing for each weather type.

This resource is a science driven, easy to use pack to use when investigating all things pumpkin! Pumpkinology is a great way to incorporate kindergarten science standards in a fun, fall themed way.

Cut off the top of a pumpkin and let them scoop out the insides to count seeds, estimate how many counting cubes tall is a pumpkin, how many paperclips will it take to fit around the pumpkin? Will the pumpkin sink or float? What is the life cycle of a pumpkin? Color or use tissue paper to produce a tear art version to create their very own pumpkin.

I use this resource in my classroom on October 31st as part of our fall party! We investigate all things pumpkin and the grand finale is when we carve a face on the pumpkin, add in baking soda, vinegar and green food coloring to make the pumpkin explode (outside of course)! Students will learn about the needs of all living things when you show them and discuss our mini-poster. Then they will complete a living and nonliving sort. There are 12 beautiful photographs of animals, 12 of different types of plants, and 12 of non-living things. Each photograph has the name of the object printed underneath it. These can be laminated and cut out so that students can sort them under the labels living and non-living (also included). This can be done with the whole group, in small groups or at centers. If this is done at centers putting 6 pictures from each category out allows for the center to be done twice.

There are 2 follow-up worksheets at slightly different levels, so you can choose what is best for your individual students' needs.

Recommended sequence

1. Review the 5 senses.

2. Take a moment to tune in, breathe, and just be.

3. Give instructions for how to quietly be in the outside world, using keen observation and a relaxed mind to fill in this chart.

4. Give plenty of time for students to draw or write their findings.

5. Come together as a group and find out what people observed and any impact it had on them.

Tips for your mindfulness nature walk

1. Walk at a natural, slow pace. Take your time to take in the beauty of nature around you. Look around you. Notice the trees around you. Are they starting to change colors? Are they losing their leaves?
2. Take in deep breaths through your nose. Shift your awareness to your smell. What do you smell? Does it smell earthy? Do you smell the leaves around you?
3. Listen. What do you hear? Are there animals bustling around? Do you hear the leaves crunching underneath your feet?
4. Pick up a few leaves. How do they feel? Are they starting to decompose? Are they crunchy? What color are they?
5. Shift your attention back to walking. Feel the physical sensation of walking. One foot up, one foot down. Notice your feet touching the ground. How do you feel?
6. At the end of your walk, pause and take a moment. Stand still and take in a deep breath. Take a look around and notice your feelings.
