Egg Incubation and Hatching Unit- Over 2 Hours of Footage + Worksheets and Test

By Ms. J's ELA

Don’t you want your students to have the opportunity to see baby chickens and ducks hatch? It is hard to incubate eggs in the classroom. It is messy, it can be distracting for the kids, and once the birds hatch you have to figure out what to do with them! This resource allows your students to see every step of the incubation process without all the hassle. You will receive over 2 hours of videos, along with worksheet pages that include parts of an egg, egg writing prompts, and egg drawing sheets. Best of all, you will have ample footage of adorable baby birds!

This resource contains differentiated assignments that are designed to make this unit useful for teachers of all elementary grade levels. I would like you to know ahead of time that baby birds are a little icky looking when they hatch. Of course, they fluff up after a while, and you will get to see them once they do. However, the soggy, dinosaur looking baby birds could be a little frightening to very young students unless they are prepped. You could always skip the active hatching videos.

This resource covers the entire egg hatching and incubation process. This resource contains videos for each day of the 21 days of incubation, along with footage of the 2 and 3 day old birds. You can see a breakdown of the video topics and the length of each video below. Below the schedule you will see a list of assignments and worksheets that you will receive with your purchase.

*YOU WILL RECEIVE A LINK TO MY YOUTUBE PLAYLIST TO ACCESS THESE VIDEOS*

French Spiral Review Activity - French Pronouns and Verbs in 3 Tenses

By Love Learning Languages - French Resources

This particular activity is different to many French TPRS circling activities because it doesn't tell a story. Instead, this activity focuses on French verbs, the pronouns LE - LA - LES - LUI - LEUR - Y - EN, possessive adjectives, and other less frequently used words that students will acquire through meaningful repetition. Each series of sentences is spoken in the present, passé composé, and futur proche tenses, and different forms of negation are included. Read on to see how you can easily differentiate this activity by using video, audio, and practice cards. Have a look at the video preview to see this activity in action!

Research reveals that language learners need MANY repetitions of grammatical structures in order to truly acquire them. By using the circling method, familiarity with the word or phrase is done through repetitive questions circling around the target language.

Here's how it works:

  • I speak a sentence: Le chien ne veut pas de ses croquettes. Il n'en veut pas.
  • I tell students to restate the sentence using a different subject pronoun: Les chats
  • Students restate the sentence making necessary changes: Les chats ne veulent pas de leurs croquettes. Les chats n'en veulent pas.

Included:

  1. Full length downloadable video circling activity - 362 slides - 53 minutes
  2. Full length downloadable audio circling activity - 53 minutes
  3. Practice cards for online use to work on reading and writing - 360 cards

Step 1: Watch the video lesson / activity to learn about the circling method. Students will quickly catch on, and will truly need to concentrate so that they can make the necessary changes in their sentences. Do your students ever tell you that they can understand what's being said, but can't think fast enough to make the necessary changes when responding? That's exactly why you should have them try out circling!

Step 2: Once they've watched the video and have done the exercise while reading along, try out the audio only version! This will be a challenge as they will not be able to see the words, and it will help with listening and speaking skills.

Step 3: Use the set of cards to practice reading and writing. Read the cards that I have spoken in steps 1 and 2, and have students take the time to write their responses before looking at the answer cards. As the cards are not numbered, I encourage you to download them and use them online rather than printing.

CI Video for Russian learners - bundle #3

By Frenchified

This is a bundle of four stories for Russian learners. Each story has a lot of repetition of the target structures along with activities for students to practice the vocabulary. There is also an animated doodle video to accompany each story - so you can tell the story, pause between scenes to ask questions and add details, or just watch the story all the way through for extra practice.

Each item includes:

  • one mp4 file of the story with text
  • one mp4 file of the story without text
  • printable pdf story
  • comprehension question worksheet
  • "who said it?" worksheet
  • story retell worksheet
  • answer key

With many people doing distance learning these days, you might wonder if it is possible to use this story in this way. The answer is YES! Here are some suggestions on how you can make this work:

- Use the pdf of the story as reading practice. You might have students read it before or after you use the video.

- Use Zoom meeting (or whatever software of your choice) to tell the story with the video. Share your screen with the mp4 file. There is no sound for the video, this is done purposely so that you can use the story for storyasking. Tell the story a little at a time, pausing the video frequently to ask questions. This will help you to circle the vocabulary and structures. Add details! If the sentence says "there is a monster under the bed" - ask questions such as "is there a monster or a dog? Is the monster under or on the bed? What kind of a monster is it - big or little? Scary or nice? What is his name? Is there a monster under your bed? What kind of a monster is under YOUR bed?"

- Once you have done the storyasking part of the task, now it is time for the students to do the comprehension and retell. These are pdf files that you can send to the students. You can also share the link to the page with the mp4 stories, so the students can watch the video on their own - with or without the text - and practice retelling.

- Finally, you can have students do the retell. This can be done through Zoom, or you could have them use Flipgrid to record.
