This classic book by Harriet Ziefert lends itself perfectly to a rhythm vs. steady beat lesson! Using the chant provided, the children can chant/sing to each other, each time that the rooster asks a new animal if they said moo. Use the beat chart and worksheet provided to distinguish and explain the difference between rhythm and steady beat as well as learn about rests in music. Use the decoding sheet to teach children how to write quarter notes and have them fill in the boxes with the appropriate beats and rests. Can be used as a paper copy or digitally through the Easel function. Adaptable for grades PreK-2.

Discuss what being quiet means while teaching the difference between rhythm and steady beat! Use a puppet or move the puppet that comes with the book to talk like the main character. Use the beat and rhythm chart to show differences between the two as well as introduce the quarter note rest. Adaptable for grades PreK-2nd grade.
