Fall vocabulary - 30 speaking prompt question cards in English

Want your students to use their AUTUMN and FALL vocabulary in meaningful conversations? This LOW PREP activity is a fun way to encourage your students to speak more to each other. This resource is suitable for any curriculum in which English is the language spoken, and will work best for students in 6th to 12th grade.

You can use these cards after learning specific vocabulary for fall or as a fun interactive activity on a day when you want to just focus on speaking and reviewing vocabulary in a different way.

All cards are visually stimulating and feature a circle to punch out in the upper left corner so that you can print, laminate, cut out, punch holes and hook the cards together with a ring. Using these cards this way makes it easy to pull them out year after year to use as NO PREP speaking activities. A pdf with only one card per page is included for easy projection when you don't want to print.

Included:

➤ 30 color speaking prompt cards

➤ 30 black and white speaking prompt cards

➤ 9 ways to use these cards

➤ Easy to project file for whole class activity

➤ Scoot activity instructions

➤ Scoot student recording sheet

There are many ways you can use this set of cards:

➤ Print, laminate, cut out, punch holes and attach on a ring for small groups to ask and answer questions.

➤ Project the pdf file in class to work in group or with your whole class and avoid printing.

➤ Use as a warm-up speaking activity with a conversation partner. As students enter the classroom have them choose 2-3 cards from a box.

➤ Students who finish their work earlier than others can choose a few of the cards and write out correct answers to false statements.

➤ Use as exit tickets. Give each student a card before the end of class and as they walk out of the room they tell the teacher their answer.

➤ Stations: Put students into groups and divide the cards amongst them. Have groups rotate to a new station as they finish the cards.

➤ Scoot: Put one card on each desk in the classroom. Give each student a response sheet and set a timer to give them just enough time to answer true or false and to correct the false statements. When the timer rings students move on to the next desk and the next question. All cards are numbered so it is simple to stay organized. Full instructions are included.

➤ Use the cards with board games. Students must answer a question in order to move.

➤ Use the cards as an icebreaker activity.

➤ Great resource for tutoring sessions and vocabulary building.

BATTLESHIP PAST TENSES | Simple | Progressive | Was Were | Regular Irregular ESL

By Miss Clever Cookie

Fun game to practice past simple and past continuous. This is my go-to game when I need to drill some grammar into my students. It's by far the most efficient grammar game. I love it because it's no prep, just PRINT AND GO. And my students love it because it doesn't feel like learning when, in fact, they do a TON of learning. We can easily spend the whole lesson playing battleship and they want to keep on playing even after the bell rings.

It's also a great activity for substitute lessons or when I'm in a time press and don't have much time to prepare for a lesson.

How to play:

  • It can be played in pairs or in small teams
  • Hide your ships in the left field. They mustn't touch.
  • Try to hit the enemy ships in the right field by making sentences.
  • If your enemy hits your ship, indicate that in the left field. If you hit your enemy's ship, mark it down in the right field. If you miss, mark it down as well. If you hit your enemy's ship, have another go.
  • To win, sink all of your enemy's ships before he sinks yours.

Contains:

  • detailed instructions
  • 6 battleship sheets at various different difficulty levels
  • each sheet contains simplified instructions

The 6 sheets focus on:

  1. was / were (affirmative and negative sentences, questions)
  2. past simple - regular verbs, easy (affirmative and negative sentences)
  3. past simple - regular verbs, medium (affirmative, negative sentences and questions)
  4. past simple - regular verbs + to be, difficult (affirmative, negative)
  5. past simple - irregular verbs (affirmative, negative)
  6. past continuous (affirmative, negative questions)
