I have been using these name badges in my classroom for the past 3 years. I love the feedback I get from Substitute Teachers when they tell me how much they appreciate having students names at the ready. I keep a note in my Substitute Emergency plans to let them know where to find the Clip-on Tags in my room.

Where to keep them:

I keep mine attached to student cubby bins so that they know where to find their stuff at the beginning of the year when we are just getting accustomed to the new classroom.

They are so proud the first time they put them on! They feel so 'professional'!

How to use the name tags:

-Open the file

-Fill in Teacher name and room number on the first slide

-Immediately click on the slide, right click, and duplicate slide so you have enough cards for your number of students

-Now fill in student names, copy, cut, and laminate

-using a hole punch make two holes just below the top line side by side

-slip through a snap clip so students can clip the tags to their clothes

This reading passage examines the short story of a high school boy who shares an embarrassing photo of a girl he doesn’t like, attempting to make her upset. Students will explore the motivations behind his actions and evaluate the way high school students treat one another.

This reading passage examines the short story of a girl hiding the fact that she is being bullied from her best friend. Students will study the value of friendship during difficult times and evaluate how bullying can affect relationships.

This reading passage examines the short story of a girl reflecting on her experience with cyberbullying. As the severity of her problem increases, students will evaluate the effects of online bullying and the best ways one can deal with it.

This reading passage examines the short story of a high school boy who is being physically bullied. By understanding the boy’s emotional turmoil, students will analyze the effects of long-term bullying and the factors which prevent teenagers from standing up to their bullies.

Anticipation guides are excellent tools that can be used before reading to activate students' prior knowledge and build curiosity about a new topic and/or to share ideas about key concepts. Students respond to several statements that challenge or support their preconceived ideas about key concepts as well as their peers’ ideas. The Anticipation Guides can help structure meaningful conversations that reviews what students already know and engages them in critical thinking about the topic they will be exploring.
