Are you currently teaching PHONICS? Are you working with a small group or providing intervention but not sure where to start? I've got you covered! This Phonics Small Group Routine has everything you need in order to implement small group intervention for ESL/ENL and Special Education.

**This routine uses all four modalities: Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing! PLUS_, kinesthetic activities!_

This routine is working really well for my ELLs this year and has also worked for my SWD in previous years. It's simple, concise and covers the basic skills and routines needed in a simplified format. This also includes a list of the first 50 skills I work on in isolation with small groups (ESL/SWD).

The formatting is loosely based on the HMH Into Reading Blend-it Books sequence for grades 1-2 and can be utilized as a supplement. This routine is NOT concrete and can be altered to your liking! This is just what I found works best for me. You can use it as a stepping stone and modify it based on your students' needs and current foundational skills curriculum!

Are you teaching your students about NOUNS? Are you looking for a NO PREP, fun and effective way to introduce Nouns that name people and animals? I've got you covered! This is perfect for the whole class or small group/intervention!

This resource aligns with HMH INTO READING for Grade 2 and can be used as a supplement to the grammar program! This can be used with other grades as well, especially students who are struggling, SWD or ELLs who need modified instruction.

When teaching about NOUNS, I find that chunking the information makes it much easier for students to understand, especially my SWD & ESL. This keeps the students attention without overwhelming them with too much information as well! (We all know grammar can be difficult to teach and learn!) These differentiated graphic organizers align with the skill “Retell” from HMH. I created them with the language proficiency levels of ENL students in mind. They can support beginner/entering level to advanced/commanding ELLs! With 5 versions to choose from, your students will be able to retell in no time! 

All versions include the “I can” statement, visual examples and the HMH anchor chart for retell. The first page includes boxes for students to illustrate the events in the story, for students who are not writing yet. If students struggle to draw on their own, you can provide them with pictures of the BME of the story to cut and glue into the boxes. The second page includes boxes for students to draw along with primary lines and sentence starters. The next two pages include primary lines with varied support of sentence starters and sequence words. For more advanced students, the last two pages include single spaced lines with varied support of sentence starters and sequence words. All of the supports are combined into one paper for easy access when modifying material.
