Item Descriptions
Task Cards
This resource consists of 36 Task Cards featuring multiple-choice questions. These questions are designed to evaluate students' proficiency in identifying various figurative language techniques, including simile, metaphor, hyperbole, idiom, personification, and onomatopoeia. Each card presents 1-2 sentences for students to analyze and determine the specific figurative language technique used.
These Task Cards are ideal for small group instruction, mini lessons, guided practice, test preparation, literacy centers, and formative assessments—or even quizzes!
During mini lessons, you can demonstrate how to identify figurative language in sentences. They are also valuable for guided practice sessions, allowing students to identify figurative language with your assistance. Additionally, they serve as excellent formative assessments. Display 1-2 cards on the Smartboard or distribute black-and-white cards to each student for them to answer. This approach offers a quick and efficient method to assess understanding and review as needed. Students can collaborate in pairs to complete these engaging Task Cards as well!
A Task Card Recording Sheet with an Answer Key is also included!
Digital Interactive Version
Students read the lines and move the correct letter choice to the designated space on the right side of the task card! This interactive feature ensures engagement and maintains students' focus throughout the activity.
