I used it for grades 6-8. It was perfect for our 6th graders because some of them had never had a designated science course before. It was perfect for our 8th graders, because it really made them think what science really is all about. Each SEP takes about 20-30 minutes! It encourage students to work together and is great for setting those group work expectations early in the year.

Activity summaries:

1. Group/class discussions on what science actually is
2. A simple experiment students can do with very little set up
3. Developing your own model
4. Creating a CER using a funny commercial
5. Graphing data that the students collected
6. Solving riddles using math
7. Engaging in an argument where there may or may not be a correct stance
8. Nice chill activity at the end to show what the students learned

Assess students knowledge of living and nonliving things with this sorting activity and game that includes real photographs. This Google Slides activity allow students to practice sorting living and nonliving things in four mini sorting slides as well as play a game to click on the living thing in each slide. Incorrect answers send students to a page with reminder questions to ask about each picture to determine which one is living. This non-fiction text is about the Painted Lady Butterfly. Students will read about painted lady butterfly eggs, painted lady caterpillars, and the butterfly itself. This is a good independent read for eight and nine-year-olds, and the perfect read-aloud for younger children. There is a poster of the Painted Lady with the parts labeled. Suggested video links are included, There are several follow-up worksheets. These are on different levels so you can choose what is appropriate for your individual class or students. These include life-cycle sheets.

If your class is lucky enough to have Painted Lady Larva to observe there is a sheet explaining the humane treatment of the butterfly.

There are two passages about animals that use camouflage, two about animals that use chemicals, two about animals that use mimicry, and two about animals that use another method of defense. The passages are written on different levels and are of different length making it easy to differentiate. There are corresponding recording sheets to help students show what they have read about. Links to videos and students friendly internet sites are included too.

The passages were written with fourth graders in mind, but the information is very interesting and complex and would be useful for upper grades as well.

This resource contains nine informational reading passages about energy sources along with two follow-up activities. There is a link to a YouTube video that introduces the different energy sources.

Students can read the passages independently or with a partner, record the type of energy they are reading about, tell whether it is renewable or nonrenewable, and list the advantages and disadvantages of the source of energy. Then students can share out jigsaw style with their peers. These passages are different lengths and can be used to differentiate. The types of energy include:
