Are your students struggling to be respectful during a classroom lesson - talking, blurting, and other things going on instead of listening respectfully? Everything needed for your next leadership lesson is included in the download!

By Jeni Donath
A "Pocket" Full of Kindness - An SEL Activity that focuses on kindness and the idea that you can take it with you wherever you go and "pull it right out of your back pocket" as the saying goes!! This activity is great for younger elementary students who are getting an introduction to all things kindness and all of the different ways that they can show kindness to others! For this activity, you will need string and scissor to help make it the most successful! My students LOVED being able to put their very own pocket together! The Magical Yet - Follow Up Activity + Introduction to Growth Mindset!

The Magical Yet book by Angela DiTerlizzi was a huge hit with my younger elementary students. We've been learning about Growth Mindset and dreaming about all of the things that we cannot do...yet... but want to work hard to accomplish someday! This follow up activity had my students' minds beaming with ideas and fun interactions of their future dreams and goals! It was so much fun to watch their eyes light up and think of alllllll the things they'd like to do someday. A few of my favorites were count to 100,000, drive a rocket, and learn to do a backflip! By Jeni Donath
"So You Think You Know Directions?!" is an absolute hit for my students! Prepare for a fun, engaging, and new favorite classroom activity for all! Each card comes with a different task that each student will be asked to complete. The cards must be completed in order, but you are only able to know what is on your card and no one else's and participants aren't able to talk (cue the attentiveness!) Didn't quite get it the first time... or the second... maybe it took a third try? No worries... cue the perseverance and respectful communication! A bonus to increase engagement - many of the cards include a task that is a bit silly (why not throw in fun ways to build confidence into this lesson, too?!) Students care deeply about trust. They want to be trusted, but they don't always understand how their actions contribute to their trustworthiness. This lesson encourages students to think about how they can build trust with the people in their lives, and makes them think about what they might receive in return for demonstrating their trustworthiness. Students will think about the ways Roger showed that he was untrustworthy, the things he did to gain Mrs. Jones' trust back, and what he ended up receiving for demonstrating that he was trustworthy.

This resource could easily be used by a substitute.
This lesson has always been a favorite of my middle school students. The topic is enlightening for kids who have felt stress responses without understanding what is really happening in their brains and bodies (pretty much all kids). Eleven is a fantastic story to use when learning about stress response because readers are often frustrated by the way the main character responds to the stressor she faces. This is a great way to integrate SEL into an English class.
