By LessonLink Teacher

This is a set of 3 Holocaust Remembrance Day Reading Comprehension Passages with Multiple Choice Questions. It is designed for grade 4, 5, and 6 students, but is also suitable for grade 7 students.

The passages are based on Holocaust Memorial Day, which is observed on January 27 every year to remember the victims of the Holocaust and other genocides, and on Holocaust Remembrance Day or Yom HaShoah observed on the 27th day of Nisan, a month in the Jewish calendar.

The passages are:

  • The Holocaust and Why It Happened: This passage explains the historical background and the main causes of the Holocaust, the systematic persecution and murder of six million Jews and millions of other people by Nazi Germany and its allies during World War II.
  • Who Were The Victims of The Holocaust?: This passage describes the diversity and experiences of the victims of the Holocaust, who included not only Jews but also Roma, Slavs, political opponents, homosexuals, people with disabilities, and others who were targeted by the Nazis for their race, religion, ideology, or identity.
  • Honoring the Victims of The Holocaust: This passage explores the ways that people around the world commemorate and honor the victims of the Holocaust, such as visiting memorials and museums, listening to survivors’ testimonies, and participating in educational and artistic activities.

Each passage is accompanied by an answer key.

These passages are ideal for teaching students about the Holocaust and its impact on humanity, as well as developing their reading comprehension and critical thinking skills.

They can be used as independent or guided reading activities, homework assignments, or assessment tools. They can also be integrated into a larger unit on the Holocaust, human rights, or social justice.
