Use the lullaby written for this book to have your students practice singing and identifying the re solfege syllable. Add instruments to accompany this lullaby while they practice singing the re syllable and take turns playing the triangles and hand chimes which would go well with accompanying this song. Decode for the re syllable after you are done singing the song. Adaptable for grades PreK-2nd grade.

This is a solfege and ostinato lesson using this wonderful book. Use the song as either a song or chant, depending on the age group. You can accompany yourself or sing acapella to practice singing la, so mi, re and do syllables in tune. Add Orff instruments for the ostinato and rhythm sticks to accompany the song. Use the worksheet (paper or in Easel) to trace the swapping journey with your older students. Adaptable for grades PreK-2nd grade.

Start the year off right with this wonderful lesson about the Japanese holiday, Tanabata! Using the book The Star Festival by Mona Ritchie Hadley, introduce your students to this wonderful holiday while discussing wishes and dreams for the upcoming year. Read the poem and then learn the speech piece. Divide into two groups while chanting and playing the two individual rhythm parts on rhythm instruments of your choice. Great for introducing and/or reviewing triplets. Use for late 2nd-4th grade as an end of year or beginning of the year setting of wishes.

Need to connect with your kids with their pop music through general music? Involve them in play along percussion with rhythm sticks/drum sticks, tambourines, and if you got a coffee can or similar, you're set, "The Middle" by Zedd, Morris, and Grey! There are three all-color coded slides along with the instrumentation listed in each beat/ Teach the rhythms on the powerpoint with the corresponding repeats (most are repeated 8, or 16 times). Then, apply it to drumsticks (played on the floor or clicked together, on a practice pad), tambourines, and on the coffee tin! This is an all rote notation powerpoint and most are quarter and two eighth rhythms. More on the hit list with your bucket drumming kids, we present Camilla Cabello's hit song from 2018, "Havana" (CLEAN VERSION)!

There are two all-color coded slides along with the form identifiers isted next to each phrase. Discuss form with the students and teach them (by rote) the rhythms on the powerpoint with the corresponding repeats (most are repeated 3 or 4 times). Then, apply it to drums!

• This version specifically targeted and tailored for beginning bucket drummers can be used for younger students who may not have the coordination for alternating hands and who just want to step right into the drumming circuit with a bit more ease! All notation in this arrangement are quarter notes, eighth notes, and quarter rests

All regular notation is to be played on the buckets (or drums, or ground, however you wish), and the X notation (with a down stem) are played as stick clicks above their head (or you could apply it to a tambourine or other auxiliary instrument)

RHYTHM BASKETBALL is in with the Mark Ronson/Bruno Mars collaboration from 2014 -- "Uptown Funk"!

There is one all-color coded slides along with corresponding repeats listed with each section (most are repeated 4 or 6 times)

• For this, your students will each have a basketball (can be regulation size or smaller) and bounce their ball on the ground each time they see a basketball icon. Each basketball icon is denoted as a quarter note. The rests are in between each ball for the students to hold the ball. Any smaller balls (grouped in two) will be played as 2 eighth note pairs and students will have to lower themselves a foot or two to dribble eighth notes on the floor

Using the song I composed for this book, sing and play along with this wonderful story! Discuss the importance and value of friendship and what makes a good friend, then sing this song after you read the story. Have students listen for the different sections to introduce musical form and then add instruments to play during the changing sections. Can also be used to discuss and introduce syncopation with the older grades. Great for students in grades K-2.
