NEW Personal Narrative Journal Rubric FREEBIE
By Christina Bush
NEW Personal Narrative Journal Rubric FREEBIE
*Updated 4/28/2021*
This update does not change the content of the rubric. The look of the resource has just been revamped!
I created this rubric to help my middle students know what is expected of them when completing a journal writing prompt for a personal narrative. Often times, my students take advantage of free writing and do not think of it as a "real grade." Giving them something to base their writing off of gives them more direction and motivation to turn in their best work, while also sticking to their personal story/experiences.
*This was intended for, BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO, the global pandemic COVID-19 experience. My students are given a weekly prompt via Google Classroom as well as this rubric to follow.
RACE Writing Strategy Printable Bookmarks Checklist

These color-coded bookmarks are already put together for you and ready to be handed to your students! Each step of the RACE writing strategy includes a brief description (front) with easy-to-follow and color-coordinated components and tips (back). Writing Peer Assessment for Quick and Easy Grading | Formative | Rubric Student
By Perfectly Planned Designs
Have stacks of essays and writing assignments you need to grade and looking for a quick and easy way to grade them? Look no further, scoop up these Writing Peer Assessments which come 2 per page and put the bulk of the grading task on the students themselves! Working with their peers, students first read the writing assignments or essays, then list their strengths and weaknesses. At this point, you can also give them copies of rubrics to reference as well. After doing a deep-dive into the writing assignment, students then assign a grade and staple their Peer Writing Assessment slip to the front and all you need to do is review the comments and decide if you agree with the grade given. In the end, the grade given by the teacher is final! Although I don't utilize this method for EVERY essay I grade, I definitely turn to these peer assessments when grading becomes overwhelming!

Not grade specific/Excellent for ALL grades!
PDF File
This resource includes:
---- 3 Short Response Rubrics (Student Friendly) *(including two variations totaling 5 rubrics)
***Two of those rubrics come in a different variation - two rubrics on one page in which the teacher/scorer can cut in half. Please click on the green preview button for a closer look!
Students are more likely to work towards higher levels of achievement when they have access to assessment tools used to evaluate their work. These three student-friendly 2-Point Short Response Rubrics consist of language that students are familiar with and can easily understand. These Rubrics enhance students' understanding of how their work will be evaluated. At the bottom of the rubric, there is a "Scorer" section where the teacher/scorer can provide comments and feedback on students' writing responses. This is an excellent tool for lower level, Special Ed, and ELL students.
These Rubrics can be used for peer evaluation. Students can use these "easy to follow" rubrics to evaluate the work of their peers and provide comments and feedback.
