Banana Bread - A Late Beginner Piano Solo

By ZS Music Publishing

Banana Bread is a fun, 16-measure piano solo for the late beginner and was composed to help address two concepts to the late beginner student. The first being anacrusis, or Pick-Ups. The song starts off with a pick-up measure and this would be a good song to either reenforce or introduce anacrusis to students.

The other concept is to play with different hand positions. You’ll notice the only left hand note Your students’ right hand will need to be in C position, on the Middle C. From here, you can choose where the left hand is placed:

  • Middle C position where both thumbs share Middle C.
  • B-C position where the Left Hand thumb is on Bass B, and the Right Hand thumb is on Middle C.
  • A regular C Position with Left Hand thumb is on Bass G and Right Hand Thumb is on Middle C.

There are two versions of the song you can use with students:

  1. Version 1 with regular note heads.
  2. Version 2 with note names in the note heads.

I hope you and your students have fun playing the song!

My Little Goldfish - A Late Beginner Piano Solo

By ZS Music Publishing

My Little Goldfish Is a 32 measure song about your pet goldfish who swims in the fishbowl saying “Blub! Blub!” The song is set in D Major and includes versions with accidentals and versions with a key signature. From the start, you can easily teach and review intervals with students such as steps and skips up to 5ths since the song begins with a descending motive with both hands and these intervals are included throughout the song as well. The song is structured so you can teach the first page of the song, then easily add in the second page even though there are some slight melodic differences.

Depending on where your student is at level wise, we’ve included two different versions of the song that you can use:

  1. Version 1 with regular note heads with accidentals.

The Coconut Dance - A Late Beginner Piano Solo

By ZS Music Publishing

The Coconut Dance is a groovy piano solo for the late beginner in the C Major position. The song is a ternary form, so once the students learn the first 8 measures of the song, they can play the last 8 measures of the song.

The lyrics of the song in the B section starting at measure 9 are instructions for a dance. To be frank, I made up these lyrics and it would be fun for you and your kiddos to try it out just to see how it goes!

There are two versions of the song you can use with students:

  1. Version 1 with regular note heads.
  2. Version 2 with note names in the note heads.

I hope you and your students have fun playing the song!

There are two versions of the song you can use with students:
