An eco-map is often used an assessment tool in clinical mental health settings, but can be a beneficial SEL activity for social awareness. This exercise can be modified for small children all the way through adults.

The graph asks the participant to picture their social life as an ecosystem where they are at the center. In the blank space around them they can write in all of their formal and informal social ties and resources they have. (For younger children I suggest offering the option to draw the people in their life!) For further reflection, the participant can then add a + to signify if the person/resource is a positive part of their life, a - to signify if the person/resource is a negative part of their life, or write +- to signify a give and take relationship.

I use this worksheet along with social awareness lessons to encourage students to think about who they can ask for help from, who they have as supports, or reflect on relationships. It also allows you to gain insight into your students' life and resources outside of the classroom.

This thoughtfully designed mandala coloring page is more than just an art activity; it's a gateway to mindfulness and emotional exploration.

As a teacher, I understand the importance of nurturing our students' well-being and providing them with tools to navigate the challenges they may face. That's why I'm excited to offer this "Mindfulness Mandala Coloring Page" as an extra assignment to encourage our students to consider mindfulness.

The captivating mandala design is created to capture their attention and transport them to a world of tranquility and creativity. Through coloring, students can find a moment of respite from the demands of their studies and immerse themselves in the present moment.

Each page includes prompts such as, "Imagine the mandala as a garden of emotions. Explore how different colors can nurture and cultivate the emotional landscape within you," provides a gentle invitation for our students to engage in self-reflection. Class set of 30 blank puzzle pieces that fit together to make one big puzzle. Each child can decorate their piece as they wish. The finished jigsaw can then prompt discussions about how although the individual pieces are all different they come together to make one whole, similar to their class - each person is different but they come together to make a class.

Why do you need this?

This activity allows each student to express their individuality and uniqueness by decorating their own jigsaw piece. This promotes inclusivity and celebrates the diversity within the classroom. As students work together to create a complete jigsaw puzzle, they learn the value of collaboration, teamwork, and unity.

How and when might you use this?

This activity could be used in a variety of ways:

• Teachers may use this activity at the start of the school year, the teacher can introduce the activity as an icebreaker to help students get to know one another. Each student decorates their jigsaw piece with symbols, images, or words that represent their personality, interests, or background.
• Throughout the school year, the teacher can incorporate the activity as part of ongoing efforts to build a strong classroom community. By completing the jigsaw puzzle together, students learn the importance of collaboration, teamwork, and respecting each other's differences.
• The activity can be used to celebrate cultural diversity within the classroom. Students can decorate their jigsaw pieces to represent aspects of their cultural heritage, such as flags, traditional symbols, or family customs. This allows students to share and learn about each other's backgrounds in a positive and inclusive way.
• Towards the end of the school year, the completed jigsaw puzzle can serve as a symbol of the class's journey together. The teacher can facilitate a reflection activity where students share their thoughts and feelings about the collaborative process and the significance of each piece in creating a unified whole.
