World Autism Awareness Day Activity Pack

I love creating NO PREP activities when I can for my French teacher peeps! Sharing my resources with colleagues has been a practice since the beginning of my career and I think that’s what makes us all stick together and help one another out. How to use this resource:

1. Copy out pages, I like to copy out a set and then load them into the copier and make multiples that way students sitting side by side do not have the same work and they tend to be more creative with their colouring.

2. Set out as many pink colouring materials as you can and let the students go

3. I created a poster size pair of T-shirts and copied onto blue paper to make a display for World Autism Awareness Day 2024

4. Hang student artwork below your poster and display for the school to see

5. Use writing version to create slogans, sentences, or positive affirmations to raise awareness

"I have, Who has?" is a fun and engaging whole-class game for your French class to practice vocabulary. The vocabulary used on the cards is French numbers from zero to thirty nine, not in numerical order. This game includes a pdf file with 40 cards as well as directions, an answer key, and a student answer sheet. My students love playing this game, especially when I time them. They love trying to beat their times.

Your students will get excited for this activity which will have them hiding "plant" seeds around the class and finding the locations in your classroom of their peers' "seeds." In fact, take it from my grade 6's who begged me to make more activities exactly like this one... So I did. They try these out before you guys do and let me know what's fun - they've given this the seal of approval.

Your sneaky investigators will need to piece together the locations of the seeds in a cartesian garden, focusing on the first quadrant, ordered pairs and X and Y axes.

Included in this 7-page activity is:

• An explanation page which details how the activity works.
• A "collection" journal for them to track their findings.
• A "cartesian garden" for them to "plot" their seeds and rebuild the garden.
• An answer key.
• Enough printable cards for 28 students.

This works amazingly for a sub and takes roughly 45 minutes to an hour for the students to hide the seeds, find all 28 seeds, and plot them in their journal and then in their cartesian garden. It also works great around Earth Day, and can be easily done outside if you've got a great space and not too much wind ;)

Do you teach a foreign language to your students? This packet contains two center activities that help teach colors in English, Spanish and French! It is differentiated so that students who need more help can use the colored word cards and those who are more advanced can use the black and white cards. The first center activity, the students match the color name to the color splat on the color mats. There are color mats available in English, Spanish and French with word cards available with each color. Use Velcro on the word cards and the blank spaces to allow the word cards to stay in place. Bell Ringers - Daily Journals for French class.

1. Day 1:  Show them the presentation and model for them.

2. Day 2: 

3. Print, copy, and have them ready for students as they walk in.

4. Saving on paper? Copy machine never works? Download the slide as a png and have students write on them on a touchscreen device or their own papers. My students use the app Chrome Canvas on their Chromebooks. I loan styluses to students during class. They aren’t too expensive. Some students just write with their fingers.

5. Day 2: Discuss the responses as a class. If you need to repeat Day 1 for the talking part for a few days, that’s okay. They will get it.

6. Days 3-5: Continue discussing responses after the journal each day. This will help them with writing and speaking.

7. Days 6 and on (or when you know they are ready): When used consistently, students will be able to speak with the phrases very quickly. Have them sit in groups and discuss their journals as you walk around the room. I often keep track of points on Class Dojo and give them a goal to shoot for.

8. Scaffold so that students will be able to talk without the journal eventually.

9. Use the words and phrases that they have learned in other activities.

10. Add the questions and answers to write stories as a class or individually. I tell students to include the day, date, weather, etc in all of their stories.

11. Ask students what another student said work on other perspectives, i.e. I, you, he, she, etc. 

12. Student A: C’est mercredi.

13. Student B: Elle dit, «C’est mercredi.»

Tic Tac Toe is a fun game that your students already know how to play, and it is a simple way to get them conjugating, writing, and speaking the irregular verb devoir in the futur simple.

When to use this resource in the classroom:
