Use this hands-on scientific method activity during a matter unit, or as a fun science center. Perfect for some fun after break!

You will need:

- a clear jar (such as a mason jar)

- 2 cups of water

- 2 tablespoons baking soda

- 6 tablespoons white vinegar

- food coloring (optional)

The question and procedure is filled in on the recording sheet. Students will need to formulate and record their hypothesis, materials, observations, and conclusion. There are guiding questions to help students think about what happened during the experiment.

The reaction created by the mixture of the baking soda and vinegar causes CO2 to form, creating gas bubbles that make the corn "hop" around.

Animal classification is when scientists organize animals into groups and sort them by what they have in common. This makes it easier for scientists to study animals. For an example: A whale and a dog don’t have as much in common, but a dog and a wolf do.  The five most well known classes of vertebrates (animals with backbones) are mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, and amphibians.  Two of the most commonly known classes of invertebrates (animals without a backbone) are arachnids (spiders) and insects. In this product, students will learn about the following: living things - plants and animals and where they live and what they need to live, nutrients and why they are important for plants and animals to survive, the parts of a plant - roots, stems, leaves, and cells. Here's a LEGO robot that I designed using the LEGO NXT robotics kit. It's a quick build for a single class period activity! SIX EASY STEPS!! The beauty of a quick build like this is a quick break down and put away at the end of class!

I have, who has... is a fun game which involves all the students. Begin the game by having one player read their "Who has" question aloud (from Start card). Each player should examine their cards carefully. The player holding the correct answer responds by stating their "I have" answer, then presents their own "Who has" question. Keep the game going until the sequence ends with Stop card.

This Review game covers concepts studied in Unit#5 Managing resources, all three sections.

The document has 36 cards, perfect for large classes. If you have less than 36 students in one class (I hope you do!), you can have some students have two cards. My students love this game, and I always have volunteers to take more than one card.
