H-Insertion FREEBIE - Speech Therapy - Articulation - Initial Sound Production
By The SLP Curriculum
This resource was created in order to help Speech Language Pathologists target initial phonemes at the word level.
The h-insertion trick can be an extremely helpful strategy to use when children are stuck at the isolation level of a sound. By producing /h/ after the initial sound, the child continues their air flow, making it easier to produce the following vowel. This helps them to eliminate the prior habit of producing the incorrect sound.
Find the Full H-Insertion Resource Here!
If you haven't tried /h/-insertion, download this FREEBIE and see it work it's magic!

French Sound Mats-ON-OU-AN-EN-SOR sound activity-Phonemic Awareness Centres
By La trousse de Madame
These activity mats (ON-OU-AN-EN) were designed with the K-3 teacher in mind. As you introduce new sounds to your Kindergarten/Grade One students, you can use the image pages for students to show sound recognition and phonemic awareness before they are able to identify letters/graphemes. As students grow in confidence, you can add the element of identifying CV sounds or VC sounds containing the target sound. Each mat has 6 cards that will contain the target sound. Students choose the card they think is the correct one, and attach the card to the mat with Velcro dots. The third and final level is identifying the target sound inside a word. Students will need to decode sounds to correctly determine the 6 matching cards that go on the mat. This resource will grow with your students as their abilities grow.
How to prepare this resource:
Make a copy of each page and laminate the page
Cut out the activity mat (the part on the left side of the page) and the activity cards (12 cards per mat)
Insert all the materials into a plastic bag, zipper pouch, or activity basket and you have a brand new independent work station for your Science of Reading lesson!
Le vocabulaire inclus:
ON

OU

First Grade Sight Word Flash Card | Fry Instant Sight Word List
By The Teaching Resources Company
On the following pages are flash cards for all of the sight words used in this worksheet.
For ease of use, they are presented in the order of introduction in the worksheet. Laminating the cards would also help make them durable. Punching a hole in each card and keeping them on a ring for each child is also a good way to keep the cards organized and easy to use.
There are many ways to use these cards. Listed below are some games and activities to help children learn to recognize the sight words:
• Sort the cards by sight words with the same beginning letter
• Find sight words that rhyme, and write other words that rhyme with the sight words on a dry erase board or separate sheet of paper.
• Sort the cards to make pairs of sight words that begin with the same letter. Play the “Memory” game using these words—players don’t get to keep the pair unless they can read both words. As an extension of this, also have players use the words in sentences.
• Use a timer to see how quickly each sight word is recognized. Begin with a small number of cards. Add more cards once increased speed and confidence is achieved.
• Put the sight words in alphabetical order.
• Come up with another word that begins with the same sound as each
sight word.

Look forward to assessment day with this DIGITAL ASSESSMENT TOOL in GOOGLE SHEETS for tracking the fourth 25 (set 4) of the Second 100 Fry’s Instant Words (words 176-200).
The First 300 Fry Instant Words make up 65% of all written material. These words should be mastered by the end of second grade. Even if you are not explicitly teaching the Fry Instant Words, an improvement in the students’ ability to orthographically map these words should be evident throughout the school year.

Check the missed word on the assessor probe to AUTOMATICALLY CALCULATE WORDS READ CORRECTLY and ACCURACY. All data is copied to the student data sheet and WORDS READ CORRECTLY are GRAPHED!
Please see DIRECTIONS included in the preview for a full explanation of the process.
Student probes are provided in THREE FORMATS (PDF, Google Slides, and PowerPoint) to print or display.
FUN, COLORFUL OVERLAYS are included to help guide students’ eyes if you chose to present the student probes digitally.

Sample Goals:
The student will demonstrate an improvement in their ability to recall the most common regular and irregularly spelled words as measured by a curriculum-based measurement in high-frequency word recall from a baseline score of 23% correct to a goal score of 95% correct by June 6, 2022.
When given a curriculum-based measurement depicting 25 regular and irregularly spelled words, the student will read the words with 98% accuracy in 4 out of 5 trials.
