“When Spring Comes” Literacy Integration Lesson Plan

The story, When Spring Comes by Kevin Hikes, illustrated by Laura Dronzek, is my daughter’s favorite book year round. It's the perfect story to explore the transition from Winter to Spring. When reading this story to children, they become overjoyed to see the nature and animals related to the springtime. They love to pretend and act out the meaning of the story.
Use this lesson plan while reading When Spring Comes. This is the perfect way to integrate physical activity and mindfulness into storytime. Each page can be brought to life with our yoga sequence and our beautifully-illustrated yoga cards teach children how to do each yoga pose.
When Spring Comes is filled with imagery, alliteration, and repetition. The Sun Salutation sequence is a great way to start the day or any yoga practice! It helps children feel present and stress-free while drawing energy like the heat of the sun. We often use Sun Salutations to create a flow of movement from one pose to the next. Try this as the perfect warm-up for any yoga practice, to get your kids ready for school, or as an after school activity to burn off extra energy.
Our playful Sun Salutation sequence and song are perfect for children ages 4 and older. This Sun Salutation takes the strength and development of children into consideration. This variation of Sun Salutation is safe for children who do not have the core strength required to safely practice planks and low push-ups. Instead, this sequence features safe, child-friendly poses in an order that they can safely transition from one pose to another gracefully.
Sing along with us! Enjoy the lyrics of this sequence as a mnemonic device to remember the sequence for years to come. Try it as call and response when leading children of any age 4 years and up.

The spring season is often a time for children to play outside, participate in outdoor sports, and just enjoy the feeling of being outside in the fresh air. However, during this warm and bright season, it can also be a time of anxiety for children. Empower and Calm Teacher Bundle

Teachers tell me they can't integrate yoga and mindfulness for two reasons: They don't know how and they don't have time. I hear that 100%.
This product is made to help you SAVE time, but first, you have to invest your time. If you spend ten minutes a day, 3 times a week in September and October, by November you only spend 5 minutes, and by January kids are doing this all by themselves. You can learn it together and then you ALL get the skills! Imagine that! Imagine the time you will save not micro-managing behavior.

The Littlest Lion Kids Yoga and Fitness Story Script

This is a SUPER FUN kids yoga story script designed for yoga instructors, early childhood educators, parents, and/or librarians with basic knowledge of kids yoga poses. It is a great way to combine literacy with physical fitness through a story kids will want to experience over and over!
I wrote this very special easy-to-follow story specifically to help young children understand the values of inclusion, acceptance, and non-judgmentalism. It has tons of fun animal poses and a repetitive theme incorporated throughout the story line.
Kids will not only LOVE this fast-paced jungle themed story, but they will also learn a valuable lesson not to judge others based on whet they look like on the outside. This story was designed to help open conversations with young children about the importance of not discriminating against other people always try to include everyone in activities.
