Students can use the picture clue puzzle or the word clue puzzle. In the picture clue puzzle, students look at the picture of the word and then find the corresponding word to color. In the word clue puzzle, students have the CVC word to look at and find the matching word to color. No prep! Just print and go.

Spring Short Vowels - Mini Set

Spring short vowel mini set - Included is one of each of the activities featuring short a.

Students will write and wipe or use manipulative letters. Students will build letters using flower petals, tap out sounds with Mr. Frog, and slowly talk with Mr. Turtle. Turtle and Frog are ready to be printed and attached to popsicle sticks for hopping / walking along each word. Use them again and again in your small groups or centers.

Turtle Talk

Materials - Picture cards, turtle

Directions - 

We will be talking very slowly like a turtle!  We call this turtle talk.  Look at the picture.  What is it?  Say the word slowly.  Tap out every sound you hear.  Write the letters on the card.  Use your turtle to walk and turtle talk the word you made!   

Flower Building

Use the letters on each flower to build words. Each set has 3 pages to provide appropriate support for your students. You will have one blank page, one with the medial sound written, and one with word families.

Hop along with MR. Frog then find a matching picture

Pumpkin Sight Word Game FREEBIE

Where is the black cat? This pumpkin themed sight word game is great for students who are practicing sight word recognition and beginning reading skills. This game can be used in a pocket chart or on a table top for an early education classroom.

What is Included:

How to Play:

Where's the Black Cat is a game for centers or whole group instruction where a cat is hidden behind a pumpkin. A poem is chanted where the student(s) must say the sight word they think the cat is behind. Once guessed, the sight word is removed. If the cat is behind the pumpkin, then the cat must be hidden again to play further. If the cat is not behind the pumpkin, then the poem is chanted again with a new sight word.

The sight word is taught in context with targeted sight word reading fluency passages and unscrambling sentences pages. Other sight word activities include tracing the sight word, writing the sight word and spelling the sight word. There is also a page included for students to get creative and decorate the sight word. This packet focuses on the sight word a.

This packet contains the following activities:

  • Build a Sentence: Students will cut out the words and unscramble the sentence using their sight word. They will then draw a picture of what the sentence is about.
