First Grade Math with One More and One Less

By Jennifer Connett

This math ring packet includes problems and word problems for solving one more and one less. While this set is listed for the 1st grade level, it can easily be adapted for use in a Kindergarten setting when introducing one more and one less concepts. Each set has several levels of difficulty and are differentiated to help reach all students where they are in their learning.

Set 1: This set has number cards for find one more of numbers less than 20. Students are to draw the number then add one more. Then they are to fill in the addition problem and the number bond to match what they drew. This set of cards has two difficulty levels, represented in the amount of the equation already filled in.

Set 2: This set has number cards for find one more of numbers more than 20, up to 100. Students are to draw the number (using base ten block pictures) then add one more. Then they are to fill in the addition problem and the number bond to match what they drew. This set of cards has two difficulty levels, represented in the amount of the equation already filled in.

Set 3: This set is a set of word problems for showing one more. Students will read the problem, then draw a representation of the word problem. Then they are to fill in the addition problem and the number bond to match what they drew. This set of cards has three difficulty levels, one set of cards has sums up to 10 and the other has sums up to 20. The 3rd set has sums up to 100.

Set 4: This set has number cards for find one less of numbers less than 20. Students are to draw the number then cross one out. Then they are to fill in the subtraction problem and the number bond to match what they drew. This set of cards has two difficulty levels, represented in the amount of the equation already filled in.

Set 5: This set has number cards for find one less of numbers more than 20, up to 100. Students are to draw the number (using base ten block pictures) then cross one out. Then they are to fill in the subtraction problem and the number bond to match what they drew. This set of cards has two difficulty levels, represented in the amount of the equation already filled in.

Set 6: This set is a set of word problems for showing one less. Students will read the problem, then draw a representation of the word problem. Then they are to fill in the subtraction problem and the number bond to match what they drew. This set of cards has three difficulty levels, one set of cards has differences up to 10 and the other has differences up to 20. The 3rd set has differences up to 100.

There are optional recording pages available for each of the sets.

First Grade Math True or False Equations

By Jennifer Connett

This set contains math rings for determining if the card shows a true equation or a false equation comparison. Print, cut and laminate these cards then place them on rings for a portable math center or small group activity. Set 1: This set contains two math problems that may or may not be equal. Students must solve both sides to see if both equations have the same answer. They will record their answers as True/False on a recording sheet. Set 2: These rings contain number bonds on both side. The first number bond is correct. The second number bond may or may not be correct. Students must determine if the second number bond is true or false and equal to the first number bond. Set 3: These rings contain number problems and number bonds and students must determine if the equation and the number bond are equal. If they are, then they will mark True on their answer page. If not, the student will mark False. Each set is available for sums up to 10 and up to 20.
