Negative thoughts have a profound effect on students’ academic and social successes, behaviors, emotions, self-esteem, and happiness. Negative thinking and self-talk can hold them back and keep them from reaching their full potential. In cognitive behavioral therapy, there are dozens of thinking errors that cause the mind to believe things that are just not true. These writing and discussion questions helps students to understand and reflect about the concept of negative thinking and mindsets and how they themselves can avoid self-defeating thoughts. They can spark some really thoughtful discussions!

You may also use these writing/discussion prompts to assess what students already know about the effects of negative thinking and mindsets and what more you need to do help students reframe negative thinking to positive thinking. Reading Passage Overview - "The End of the World"

This reading passage examines the short story of a boy being pulled in a million different directions who needs to set boundaries in order to take care of himself. The worksheets are about the benefits of setting these boundaries and dealing with stress.

They may be finding their growing responsibilities overwhelming. In some cases, our middle and high school students may feel alone in making decisions that will influence the rest of their lives.

As teachers, we have a unique opportunity to encourage our students to reflect about their experiences, thought processes, and decision-making - and consider the most appropriate ways of handling and coping with their challenges.

This resource includes 24 highly relevant reflection questions related to teen issues that many teenagers face today and will continue to face as they progress in their lives. Students are asked to reflect about particular topics, discuss their experiences with these topics, and then think about behaviors and actions they can take to help them cope with or resolve their conflicts, challenges, or issues.
