Are you wanting to use French comprehensible input in your classes, but:

  • You are required to use a district textbook?
  • You need a little bit of structure as you get your feet wet with comprehensible input?
  • You are required to give a district final, but want to use CI to teach your classes?

If so, this bundle of comprehensible input units for French is for you!

These units are the perfect complement to a district curriculum or textbook - they cover the typical vocabulary and grammar taught in the first semester of French 1, but with a more communicated approach.  Work through the unit with circling and repetition and at the end of each unit, your students will be amazed at how much they can do with the language!

Here's what you'll get in each unit:

  • Daily PowerPoint lesson for you to present the material
  • A student dictionary handout page
  • Word wall printable posters
  • Daily bell work activities
  • Practice handouts to give your students practice in using the language
  • A unit story based on the vocabulary of the previous lessons
  • Cloze activities to accompany the unit story
  • Running dictation game to accompany the unit story
  • Animated video of the story
  • Short assessments for the unit: reading, listening, presentational speaking, interpersonal communication and presentational writing
  • It's not fair game - both in English and French versions to review the unit story

Your students will pick up the language as they work through the unit.  With a combination of the daily powerpoint to allow for circling and repetition and the activities to give students using the language in a real-life way, you will be amazed at how much they can do by the end of the unit!  Each unit has a full set of lesson plans that will take you through everything students need to know in order to read the unit story at the end.

Level 1 currently has units 1-8 available.  No matter what textbook or curriculum you use, these units cover the basics that are generally taught in level 1 French.  Level 2 has units 1-8.  If you would like to see what vocabulary is included in each unit, please visit http://bit.ly/2Sg3tLK.

TEACHERS LIKE YOU SAID…

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Sara L. says “I've been wanting to take the CI plunge and this resource did it for me! I experimented with 7th graders who have French for only 9 weeks and my level I 8th graders. I wasn't sure how the 7th graders would react but they LOVED it! I followed the resource almost exactly although I did need to spread the days out a bit. I was amazed at what students could DO at the conclusion of the unit. This did it for me, I have purchased the following units from Frenchified and am now a fan of CI! “

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Mme CC says “This resource is quite the gem. It has everything you need. I love the amount of prepared comprehensible input we have! My district textbook claims to be CI based, but there isn't nearly enough input provided. As a busy teacher, I needed something with input and output tasks ready to go and this has it all! Thank you so much! I look forward to using the other units!”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Hannah H says “I liked all the repetition, and I purchased another of these packs. My students like the pictures, and recognized most of the famous people used in the PowerPoint. I love how the PowerPoint was in Word, I was able to turn it into google slides (we use Schoology, and it takes Google Docs) with no problem. Great resource!  It also comes with worksheets and some graphic organizers. Love all those things. “

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️  Mlle D says “Another fantastic resource that proved to be versatile and well worth the money. It was so easy to pick and choose activities to include during distance learning. I love the consistency with your units and how well laid out and organized they are. “

Kindred UNIT PLAN | Discussion Questions, Vocab Lists, Writing Prompts, & More | Octavia E. Butler

By Rigorous Resources for High School English

This 60-page EDITABLE unit has everything you'll need for profoundly stimulating lessons on Octavia Butler's Kindred!! Invite your class to engage in student-driven discussions without compromising on intellectual rigor. The daily quizzes, discussion prompts, and writing assignment will challenge your students to dig beneath the surface of the text and unlock profound interpretive insights!

Hold your students accountable for completing the nightly homework by beginning every class with a quick vocabulary and reading quiz. Challenge students to explicate textual details using a wide range of interpretive lenses: formalist, historicist, feminist, psychoanalytic, etc. Facilitate dynamic discussions that inspire students to arrive at a whole new depth of insight!!

Everything you’ll need to teach the novel is included in this bundle:

Unit & Pacing Guide: Suggestions for how to pace the reading homework and organize the classwork for Octavia Butler's Kindred. (2 pages)

Author Introduction: A brief summary of the life of Octavia Butler and the research that she conducted before writing Kindred. (1 page)

Discussion Questions: Sixteen pages of higher-order discussion questions guaranteed to inspire profoundly thoughtful class discussions! This unit features double-sided handouts with 8-10 questions for each of the novel's 8 sections. The discussion questions are the beating heart of this curriculum. They challenge students to build interpretive arguments that require the support of carefully selected textual evidence — leading to keen interpretive insights! Guaranteed to build skills in close reading and critical reasoning! (16 pages)

Quick Writes: A "quick write" can be used at any time in a class to get students to pause and reflect on the text in writing. Introduce a quick write before you begin a discussion to allow your more reticent students to collect their thoughts. Or roll one out toward the end of a discussion to let students capture and refine their best ideas. (8 pages)

Vocabulary Lists: Lists of 10-12 vocabulary words to accompany every nightly reading assignment. Every vocabulary word comes with a definition and a sample sentence with the word as used in Kindred. A total of over 100 words. (8 pages)

Vocabulary & Reading Quizzes: Build students’ vocabularies while holding them accountable for the nightly reading homework. Each quiz contains 7 questions on vocabulary words plus another 3 questions on reading comprehension. Grading these quizzes is simple and quick. They’re an easy way to log up to 8 grades in your gradebook. Answer key provided. (16 pages)

Writing Assignment: Challenge students to take their interpretations one step further by writing an analytical paper on Butler’s wonderfully complex novel. Let students choose amongst 5 profoundly thought-provoking sample topics — or invite them to develop an original topic of their own. (2 pages)

Poetry Pairings: Seven thematically relevant poems by two exceptionally talented black women poets, Lucille Clifton and Natasha Trethewey. (7 pages)

This unit is filled with dozens of visual images that shed light on important scenes from Octavia Butler's novel: documentary photographs of antebellum plantations, excerpts from Butler's handwritten drafts and journals, paintings of biblical figures referenced in the novel, etc. But what really distinguishes this curriculum is how the discussion starters and writing prompts deepen students' thinking and help them arrive at profound interpretive insights!

This resource packet will come to you in two separate formats: Word docs *and* PDFs. Because the Word docs are fully editable, you'll be able to customize the materials to suit your teaching style and/or the skill levels of your students — year after year! If you don't have Microsoft Word, you'll still be able to access the entire unit as PDFs, which are easy to navigate and quick to print!

Because I believe that teachers should be able to see what they'd be getting before they purchase, the preview for this resource provides direct access to dozens of actual pages from the unit. Click on the green “preview” button to see exactly what you’ll get....

Depth not Breadth

The benefits of 'depth not breadth' are seen in many scholarly journals. When teachers & students spend more time with a text, they have more opportunities to interact and respond to literature.

  • Deep Understanding: When students delve deeply into a text, they gain a thorough understanding of its themes, characters, and nuances. This deep engagement allows them to appreciate the complexities of literature, fostering a richer and more meaningful reading experience.
  • Critical Thinking: Depth encourages critical thinking. Students learn to analyze, interpret, and evaluate texts, which enhances their ability to think critically about what they read. This skill is crucial not only for academic success but also for making informed decisions in everyday life.
  • Skill Development: Engaging deeply with a few texts helps students develop essential literacy skills, such as close reading, analytical writing, and evidence-based argumentation. These skills are foundational for success in higher education and beyond.
  • Connection and Retention: Students are more likely to form connections with the material and retain information when they study it in depth. This approach allows them to see the interconnectedness of themes and ideas, making the learning experience more cohesive and memorable.
  • Personal Engagement: When students spend more time on a text, they have the opportunity to relate personally to the material, fostering a greater sense of engagement and motivation. Personal connections to literature can inspire a lifelong love of reading.
  • Addressing Complexity: Many literary works are complex and require time to unpack fully. By focusing on depth, students can explore these complexities, enhancing their understanding and appreciation of literature's multifaceted nature.
  • Application of Concepts: A deep dive into a text allows students to apply literary concepts and theories in a meaningful way. They can practice applying various analytical lenses, which deepens their understanding and prepares them for more advanced literary study.
  • Quality Over Quantity: The quality of learning is often more important than the quantity. By focusing on a few key texts, teachers can ensure that students are engaging with high-quality literature and getting the most out of their reading experience.

Drawing Art: 2-Point Perspective City-Full Unit.

By Art Shack by JB

Need an awesome Art Unit? I have just the thing for you! This creative 2-Point Perspective City artwork was designed to be printed and displayed as examples while you teach. Use this Google Slide file to display these beautiful images one-by-one on a large screen. For this assignment, I did a demo and taught the class how to use a ruler and a yardstick. Measurements and Math were a strong focus of the lesson. Next, students spent the rest of the first lesson practicing the use of a ruler and a yardstick. I taught the students how to do 2-point perspective with step-by-step slides. Students started on their Final Copy paper and created their own version of my example. Students used colored pencils, colored sharpies, or watercolor paint to color their Mandala Design. I hope you and your kiddos love this! Enjoy.

⭐ Socratic Seminar Lesson & Materials:

Socratic Seminars (or "Fish Bowl" Conversations as I like to call them with my students) are fantastic, higher order ways of assessing whether your students are able to understand and react to your class text. These seminars rely on the power of inquiry and allow students to take the lead in their learning and discussion. The only problem? They require a great deal of preparation. Fortunately, this student-tested resource includes everything you need to conduct a structured and formal set of Socratic Seminars in your classroom surrounding Monster... and no preparation is required by you at all!

Monster vs. Murder on a Sunday Morning Compare Contrast Project:

This week-long project asks students to view the Oscar Award-Winning documentary, Murder on a Sunday Morning, and compare it to the shockingly similar novel. Students love seeing the real-life courtroom action play out and connecting it to the novel they read in class. It is incredibly relevant for our times and is in my opinion, a "must-do" for your Monster unit!

⭐ ESCAPE ROOM

Salvatore Zinzi and Wendell Bolden are at it again, snitching on their buddies to lessen their own sentences in prison. Except this time, they've snitched on your students! Each one has been accused of being a part of a robbery gone wrong and now they are trapped in a frighteningly dark and dreary jail cell. The only way to escape is by solving 5 different skills-based puzzles, discovering a hidden message, and finding clues along the way.

⭐ Monster (Myers) Human Tic Tac Toe Review Game

This resource features a lesson plan and materials for the Human Tic Tac Toe Review Game, an engaging and competitive way to review Monster. Let's face it, review days can be difficult and boring... so your students will appreciate you making learning fun with this collaborative game. The resource includes not only a meticulously detailed lesson plan and set-up instructions, but 60 questions on characters, plot, and vocabulary from Monster. Besides simple set-up, very little preparation is needed for this lesson and if your students are like mine, they will ask for this form of review for every unit of study!

⭐ Quizzes for Entire Novel:

This resource features 3 comprehensive and thoughtfully-written quizzes for the acclaimed novel, Monster. While Monster is perfect for optimal student engagement and involved discussions on contemporary issues in society, it is also important that students understand what is going on. These straightforward quizzes will make sure that you students understand the plot, characters, and vocabulary of this amazing and relevant novel!

Purchasing this bundle saves over 20% off the cost of all resources.

AP Spanish Lesson Plans Unit 4 Science and Tech Complete Unit Plans No Book!

By Specialty Spanish

Ready to start AP Spanish® Unit 4: The Influence of Science and Technology?  No time to find all the authentic materials your students need?  Your Unit 4 Lesson Plans (Las influencias de la ciencia y la tecnología ) are done!  These digital AND printable lesson plans have nearly every activity you will need linked in.  Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking, Activities that combine 2 skills, Homework, Assessments, AP® Exam Style activities and even Projects are all included! Students will practice writing an AP® Exam Argumentative Essay and practice the reading and listening multiple choice style questions.  This is the fourth unit in the AP Classroom curriculum. (In my Units 1-3 plans, all of the parts of the AP® Exam have been introduced with direct instruction.)

Best of all, these lesson plans do NOT require that you have a particular textbook!  Everything you need is provided!

Teaching a new course, or even trying to revamp a course you’ve taught for a while is extremely time consuming.  These complete unit lesson plans will take you through the entire 4th unit for The Influences of Science and Technology starting with a “Hook Activity” about scientific advances to spark interest and then the essential questions, vocabulary list and grammar study guide you will need to get started. There are activities related to genetic modification, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data and more!  These are CURRENT topics that our students are interested in RIGHT NOW!  Every activity (over 58!) you need (with the exception of 3) is linked in.  Your prep will be limited to reviewing the lesson plans and sources ahead of your students, but the searching for appropriate authentic materials and creating accompanying activities is already done for you!  Download the Learning Objectives and Activity Count here!

I am fortunate to have several textbook resources including Temas, AP Spanish Preparing for the Language and Culture Examination and Avance.   In these lesson plans I make use of these textbooks for 3 out of 58+ activities.  But in the few cases that I’ve used these resources in the lesson plans, I have included links to alternatives.  However, especially after teaching on-line for a year, I have moved away from relying on textbooks and I create most of the activities myself. This makes these lesson plans very versatile and usable for anyone!  For teachers who need or like to teach digitally, all of the activities in this bundle can be assigned via Google Classroom or other learning management system. And almost every activity is also printable for teachers and students who prefer paper copies.  Best of all, once you have these activities in your Google Drive, you can edit and adapt anything to suit your needs!

I have been teaching AP Spanish Language and Culture® since 2014 and have 24 years of teaching experience.  My students have done overwhelmingly well on the AP exam over the years and almost all have earned the scores needed to get college credit, with many receiving 4’s and 5’s.

I start the year with a set of lesson plans designed to last one week.  It is linked below.  We do all the paper-passing, signing up for different apps and classrooms, and become comfortable with the course and our classmates.  We also present our summer homework, also linked below.  Next I teach Unit 1: Families in Different Societies. This unit (Unit 4) starts as if all of the beginning of the year “housekeeping” has been done already and logically follows units 1, 2 and 3 where I present all the different tasks of the AP® Spanish Exam.   The previous unit plans are also linked below.  AP®teachers are allowed to teach the units in any order they would like, but I recommend that if you plan to use this series of lesson plans, that you go in order. I choose to introduce the AP® test open-ended tasks over time so that students are not overwhelmed, though it is not a necessity if you have your own way of preparing students for the AP® Exam..  By unit 3, they will have learned the purpose, rules and resources for all of the tasks and can spend the last 3 units practicing them some more.

Need an example before you buy?  I don't blame you!  Feel free to email me or visit my website's free resource library. (links below)  I have a FREE Unit 3 Day 1 lesson plan for the Influences of Beauty and Aesthetics.  It will give you a sense of how I organize my daily lesson plans and the quality of my work.

Accelerated Rock'n'Rollin' - Beginner Drumset Method: Studio License

By ZS Music Publishing

Introducing our NEW Accelertated Rock'n'Rollin'!

Accelerated Rock'n'Rollin' is designed for the beginning drummer in ages 13 and up, and even adults! The book is a combination of levels 1 and 2 which dives straight into reading music on the simplified staff with the abbreviations on circles (notes and moves students through reading drum music on the staff, learning note values, time signatures, and dynamics. In this book, patterns are called solos.

There are also a hand full of composing activities throughout the book. Remember that students should not be rushed through the book, and it is completely okay to keep students working on a certain section or pattern for a few weeks at a time until they’re comfortable.

To make sure they’re playing with accuracy, start off each pattern around 60bpm. You can adjust the tempo from there as they learn the patterns.

The book flows in the following order:

  • Introduce the Instruments on a simplified 3-line staff.

  • Moves to a traditional 5-line staff.

  • Introduce notes as quarter notes on the staff, and changes cymbals to cross notes.

  • Introduce Half Notes and Rests, Whole Notes and Rests, and Dotted half notes.

  • Introduce Rudiments and Stickings.

    • From Book 2, “ROCK’N’RUDIMENTS” readies students to learn and play simple stickings in 4/4 and 3/4 times using Quarters, Whole, Halfs, and Eighth notes. These rudiments can be used for fills, and can be revisited later on.
  • Introduces beamed 8th notes (2 sounds in 1 beat.)

  • Introduces Forte and Piano dynamics.

Printing instructions are included on the first page, with a print authorization certificate on page 2. The book is pages 3-102 in the document. Duplication is ALLOWED with this product. E-mail us at: zsmusiceducation@gmail.com for more information.
