Are your Spanish students preparing to take a test for the Seal of Biliteracy? Here are 15 interpersonal listening/speaking prompts designed to help them succeed on the AAPPL Test.   Build speaking proficiency by allowing students to listen to the recorded prompts and record their own responses.

This activity is designed to mimic the AAPPL test in that there are multiple prompts about lots of subjects.  The prompts will ask students to respond with their own information, or to ask questions.  The prompts become more complex as they go, and move between present and past tenses primarily.

The prompts are recorded for you, but the teacher script is also provided in case you want to record your own voice or set this activity up in language lab software.  If you don’t have a language lab, this activity is easy to use as a whole class or to post on your learning platform.

This awesome resource with the classic story of la Bella y la Bestia is an easy-to-use and low-prep way to practice the preterite and the imperfect, along with reading comprehension skills. Students love these stories because they are stories that they are already familiar with, making them more comprehensible, turning this tricky grammar topic from dry and boring to engaging and fun!

The familiar story of Beauty and the Beast is a perfect way to practice and assess your students’ knowledge of the preterite and imperfect tenses in Spanish with easy differentiation.

This file includes two versions of the same story:

• Version A has the verbs already conjugated, and the students must choose between the preterite and imperfect tenses of the verb.
• Version A also includes true/false comprehension questions and students must correct the false statements.
• Version B includes only the infinitive, so they must first decide which tense to use and then fill in the blank with the correct conjugated form of the verb.
• Version B also includes comprehension questions to be answered in complete sentences in Spanish.

Each version of the story with questions is three pages long. The two different versions make differentiation simple!

A different approach and a fun way to recap: colors, seasons, numbers, shapes, physical characteristics, clothing articles etc.

Do you find it nearly impossible to find French grammar based reading, writing, speaking, and listening activities?  The focus on specific grammar themes seems to get pushed aside when you want to incorporate all of the other skills.  This is a set of four booklets based on French partitive articles. 

When you’re teaching articles, you may not want everything you do to be absolutely grammar based, because that can become boring.  

This set of four one-page front and back, no-prep booklets includes reading comprehension with questions, a grammar quiz, a writing exercise with three activities, and a partnered writing and speaking activity. 

These activities are not meant for teaching articles. They do not include rules. The activities in these booklets are not for absolute beginners.

These activities are meant to provide your students with an opportunity for a challenging review of this grammar topic.

All of the booklets are based on mastering French partitive articles.

Have you tried Integrated Listening and Speaking activities with your Spanish students?  Use these IPA activities with the theme of Hobbies and Free Time  to get students listening and responding- just like in tests like AAPPL or STAMP for the Seal of Biliteracy!  Integrated Performance Assessments mimic real-world interactions, and these activities are great practice for communication!

55 Common French Expressions

Learning common French expressions is a great way to spice up conversations, increase vocabulary, and sound more French. The grammar in these expressions is varied, so this resource is fine for all levels (even beginners). Many of these expressions are informal or familiar, and if that is the case it's indicated on the card. However, none of the expressions are inappropriate or vulgar. Click here for a set of 100 different common French expressions.

The idea is to not worry about WHY things are said this way in French, but instead to encourage our students to accept it and memorize these 55 short expressions, interjections, and sentence starters. My students have a lot of fun using these, and I love hearing them having fun with French!

In addition to the set of cards, you get video and audio versions. All of the words and expressions are spoken slowly, and students are given time to repeat them aloud. English translations are included for all 55 expressions on the video recording. Students will notice that the English versions are almost never direct translations, which is interesting to note! An audio recording is included so you can share this to have your students practice almost anywhere (even on the way to school)!

How to use the set of practice cards:

Have students print and cut out the set of 55 cards, and hook them together with a ring. Expressions are written in French at the top, and in English at the bottom. As they practice and master these expressions by using the video and audio recordings, they can test themselves frequently with the stack of cards. When they feel confident with a word or expression, they can take a pair of scissors and CUT OFF THE ENGLISH translation on the dotted line. They'll eventually have a handy set of French only cards to pull out any time they'd like to review.

The familiar story of Snow White is a perfect way to practice and assess your students’ knowledge of the preterite and imperfect tenses in Spanish with easy differentiation. This resource makes a great emergency sub plan (2 days’ worth of material), homework assignment, or formative assessment. These stories are great for Spanish 2 or as a review of the Preterite vs Imperfect tenses at the beginning of Spanish 3 or 4.

• Version B includes only the infinitive, so they must first decide which tense to use (preterite or imperfect) and then fill in the blank with the correct form of the verb.
• Version B also includes comprehension questions to be answered in complete sentences in Spanish in the past tense.

Each version of the story with questions is three pages long. The two different versions make differentiation simple!
