Context Clues Bundle

This bundle contains five context clues passages exploring common teen issues and situations. Each passage includes eight highlighted words designed to challenge students to broaden their vocabulary. For each word, students will be tasked with deciphering the meaning through several context clues surrounding the word. All five passages come with an answer key containing the correct definition of the word, the context clues that helped identify the meaning of the word, and an example sentence. Through these passages, students will enrich their comprehension skills while exploring a variety of scenarios relevant to teenage life.

Students can work on one slide at a time. What's unique about how the content is presented on the PowerPoint is that each slide contains ONE vocabulary word within the paragraph it is used in. Students will read the paragraph with the underlined vocabulary word, and decipher the meaning through several context clues surrounding the word. They will also be challenged to use the word correctly in a sentence. The next slide is an ANSWER KEY slide to make it easier to review!

This short four-page close reading and worksheet activity provides an overview of how women participated in the military during World War II. It covers nurses and the women who supported the other branches of the military: the Women Army Corps (WAC), the WAVES (Navy), SPARS (Coast Guard), Marines and WASPs. Students can read this on their own as a homework assignment or it can be a group activity in a classroom. It is also ideally suited for home-schoolers or independent learners who want to learn more. The assignment asks students to write a 40-minute in-class essay in response to one amongst three recent Q3 prompts that featured Passing as one of the recommended works of literary merit. (5 pages)

• Analytical Writing Assignment: Challenge students to take their interpretations one step further by writing an analytical paper on Larsen's Passing. Let students choose from one of 5 thought-provoking sample topics — or invite them to develop a similar topic of their own. Rubric included. (4 pages)
