French reading comprehension activities Short Story Bundle - French sub plan
By Frenchified
Are you looking for materials to help your French students with reading comprehension? Look no further! Our French Reading Comprehension Activities and Sub Plans Short Story Bundle is perfect for beginning and intermediate French readers. It can be used for free voluntary reading, guided class reading, or a French sub plan - making it an incredibly versatile resource for in the classroom or at home.
Each story includes:
The stories address a variety of situations, including cultural information.
A brief summary of each story:
Joe & the Talking Sandwich: Joe is a student who brings his lunch to school. Usually this isn’t a problem. But today - his sandwich is talking to him! It gets him in trouble with his teachers and the bus driver. But worst of all, it begs Joe not to eat him at lunch time.
Frankie the Vampire: Frankie is a vampire - a very bad vampire. He is afraid of the dark! This makes it very difficult for him to do the most basic vampire things, especially finding dinner. He needs help, and he finds it from a local psychic.
La Bise: Bryan is an American who is visiting France. He doesn't want to be rude, so he's prepared himself for the French custom of La Bise. But unfortunately, he didn't listen to the entire explanation in French class! Bryan's trip starts out fine but his cultural misunderstandings get him into more and more trouble.
La Baguette Magique: Each day, the local baker sells one special bread - the "baguette magique." And each day, the recipient sees something special happen in his or her life. Joseph wants to learn the secret of the bread, but the baker tells him it will take time.
La Belle Soeur: Lucie and Annie are sisters. Annie is very jealous - she will get her revenge on her popular sister in a devious plan that involves mud, bacon and blue dye.
Canadaman: Josh is a typical boy, until he goes on a camping trip and everything changes. He starts being polite, he develops weird food preferences, and suddenly develops mad hockey skills. What is happening to him, and how will he use these new powers for good instead of evil?
Having short stories available can also save time in the event of emergency absences where you need to provide substitute material. These well-crafted stories are perfect for emergency sub plans that do not require advanced preparation or elaborate instructions. Just print out the bundle’s stories and supplemental materials and you’ll have a fun exercise ready for your students when you aren’t there to supervise them.
French Duolingo podcast season 12 activities bundle

These Activities to accompany French Duolingo Podcast season 12 The Secret Life of Josephine Baker - will help your students with their listening comprehension skills while also entertaining them.
Each podcast is in both English and French - so even novice-high students can enjoy the stories. The podcasts are approximately 24 minutes long and are available for free on the Duolingo podcast site. This set of activities it meant to accompany episodes 96-101, which cover the rise of Josephine's career to her work as a spy.
NOTE: Josephine Baker sang at a cabaret and performed in various stages of undress. Some of these things are mentioned in the episodes. Please read the transcript of the podcast at the link above before purchasing if you aren't sure if these episodes will be suitable for your school or students.
The activities include both pre- and post-listening activities. To prepare your students to listen to the podcast, you will find:
During the podcast, students can take notes on the sheet provided in the activity if you wish them to do so.
After listening, students can do the comprehension questions. There are sets of questions, in both English and French to check for understanding. There is also a page with 10 true and false questions and 10 fill in the blank questions.
If you would like the students to read the complete transcript of the podcast, you will find it on the Duolingo Podcast site. Standard 1.2: Students understand and interpret written and spoken language on a variety of topics.
Standard 2.1: Students demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the practices and perspectives of the culture studied.

French Extra activities bundle - worksheets to accompany episodes 9-13
By Frenchified
This Extra French activities bundle includes activities for episodes 9-13 of the French version of the show. Includes comprehension and vocabulary activities to make each episode more useful.
The show Extra! is a thirteen-episode series for French language learners. it takes place in a Paris apartment/dormitory and has four main characters - Sam, Nico, Sacha, and Annie. Sam is an American who is trying to learn French as well as to make some new friends. He has a secret that will affect the way he relates to other people.
Each episode can stand alone, although it is more interesting to start from the beginning and watch them in order. I spread the episodes out over the course of a semester, but you could do them more or less frequently.
I usually show these to my second-year students during the second semester. They have enough vocabulary to understand most of the dialog by this time. As the season goes on, Sam's French skills improve - and the level of language used by the characters also goes up.
The worksheets provide comprehension checks but also scaffolding resources.
For each episode you will find activities such as:
vocabulary list with English translations
vocabulary list with no translations - have students fill in while watching
comprehension questions in French
comprehension questions in English
flashcards for the vocabulary list
a word spiral puzzle
a crossword puzzle
fill in the blanks
Scrambled sentences
a word search puzzle
There are many places to view the episodes, YouTube has them in both sub-titled and non-subtitled versions. For lower-level students, I would suggest the version with French subtitles.

French Daily Journal and Activities - Bell Ringers - Journal Quotidien du Matin
By Love Learning Languages - French Resources
Daily French journals are a wonderful way to start class. You can set this journal up as a bell ringer activity or an early finisher journal. Your students will actively engage in practicing their French in a personalized and meaningful way. You will love this no prep printable daily French journal which includes activities for planning and gratitude. All you have to do is print and go! This French daily work journal provides 200 pages of activities, and it is written completely in French. Take a look at the preview to see all of the details and examples.
Front page activities include the following tasks:
Back page is for writing:
200 pages are included. I like to print double sided which gives me 100 days of journaling. If you choose to have your students use these on Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays, you can use this as a full year program.
This resource saves you valuable time by not having to write journal questions yourself. The sequence of tasks is designed to be repetitive so that the tasks remain familiar and achievable, yet the content changes every day to keep it fresh!
The second half of the pages is more challenging than the first as it includes reflexive verbs (even some idiomatic ones), and the vocabulary is at a higher level.
Watch the video I made so that you can see all of the rich material inside and I can show and tell you how I like to use this journal. You'll see that I printed mine double sided on pretty parchment paper and turned it into a booklet that really feels like a journal, but plain white paper and folders to store them in work just as well.
Expect your students to:
You will appreciate:
What teachers like you say about this daily French journal:
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Marvelous! My intermediate low-mid students love this! They enjoy doing this at the start of class and at home on days they don't have class. They are intrigued by the quotes and expressions. They love the changing information and the tracking of their self-care...in French! They do not receive a "grade" for this - by their own choice. They find it relevant and fun! We sometimes use it as a jumping off point for some discussion and for some grammar points. Mostly, though, the students just enjoy keeping track of their daily feelings, self-care, etc. in French!!" - Anne S.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "My French 3 students were so excited when I showed this to them and have eagerly begun this journaling process. We are beginning our class every other day with this activity. I love all the details that you included!" - Rebecca D.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "I've done something similar to this in the past but mine was nowhere near as thorough or well-done. This will be a nice addition to my beginning of class routines." - Shanda H.
PRINTING:
8.5 x 11 letter paper works well for printing this document. All of the pages are black and white and do not require too much ink. I recommend printing the pages double sided. You can bind the pages together with staples, a binder clip, by punching holes in the pages and inserting into a folder, or you can have the pages bound together at a business supply store.

French Spiral Review Activity - Regular French Verbs in 3 tenses
By Love Learning Languages - French Resources
This French spiral review activity is different to many French TPRS circling activities because it doesn't tell a story. Instead, this activity focuses on six regular French verbs, possessive adjectives, and other less frequently words that students will acquire through meaningful repetition.
Each sentence is spoken in the present, passé composé, and futur proche tenses both with and without negation. Read on to see how you can easily differentiate this activity by using video, audio, and practice cards. Have a look at the video preview to see this activity in action!
Research reveals that language learners need MANY repetitions of grammatical structures in order to truly acquire them. By using the circling method, familiarity with the word or phrase is done through repetitive questions circling around the target language.
Here's how it works:
Included:
Step 1: Watch the video lesson / activity to learn about the circling method. Students will quickly catch on, and will truly need to concentrate so that they can make the necessary changes in their sentences. Do your students ever tell you that they can understand what's being said, but can't think fast enough to make the necessary changes when responding? That's exactly why you should have them try out circling!
Step 2: Once they've watched the video and have done the exercise while reading along, try out the audio only version! This will be a challenge as they will not be able to see the words, and it will help with listening and speaking skills.
Step 3: Use the set of cards to practice reading and writing. Read the cards that I have spoken in steps 1 and 2, and have students take the time to write their responses before looking at the answer cards. As the cards are not numbered, I encourage you to download them and use them online rather than printing.

Merci! ❤️☜ ☞This resource is included in my advanced French growing bundle☜ As you teach French, do you find that over the years you hear students making the same kinds of grammar mistakes over and over again? English speaking students in particular often make the same kinds of mistakes. Here are just a few examples of common mistakes I've heard time and again over the last 20 years teaching French: ⭐ Je voudrais un verre de l'eau avec glaçons. ⭐ On aime des pommes et des bananes. ⭐ J'arrive chez toi autour de 17h00. ⭐ Nous sommes sur l'avion déjà. ⭐ Tu attends pour le bus? ⭐ Je pense de ton problème. ⭐ Nous nous lavons nos mains. ⭐ Je la donne un cadeau. You've probably seen the same kinds of mistakes with your students. Very often, mistakes that are made go back to basic French that wasn't mastered when it was introduced for the first time. This activity offers an excellent opportunity to revisit lots of basic grammar that otherwise often gets ignored as we progress through the chapters and more advanced grammar. I like to use this kind of activity at back to school for returning students or at the end of a quarter or semester as a solid review. French Tenses Bundle La Routine Quotidienne Reading and Listening Comprehension
By Love Learning Languages - French Resources
Are you looking for materials to help your French students with reading and listening comprehension? These unique stories and lessons will keep your students' attention, and they are ready to go and do not require any prep on your end.
Read and listen to a narrative story in French about Vanessa's daily routine - la routine quotidienne - in the present, passé composé, imperfect, futur simple, conditional, and futur antérieur tenses. Students will practice and strengthen reading, writing, and listening skills.
Many different French verbs are used in the present tense including regular verbs, irregular verbs, and reflexive verbs. Some verbs are used with various forms of negation.
This bundle includes stories in the following tenses:
Included in each lesson:
➯ STEP 1: Listen to the audio recording of a typical day in the life of Vanessa. See how much you can understand without reading along. It's only a little more than two minutes long, so you can listen to it a few times if necessary.
➯ STEP 2: Listen and read along at the same time with the French only version of the text.
➯ STEP 3: Read the French and English version of the text and notice how the sentence structure changes when comparing the two languages. Take note of any new vocabulary or expressions.
➯ STEP 4: Gap fill exercise #1 - Fill in the blanks with verbs as you listen once again to the audio recording. Check your work with the French only version of the text.
➯ STEP 5: Gap fill exercise #2 - Improve listening skills and comprehension of syntax while increasing your vocabulary. This time, rather than filling in the blanks with verbs, you will listen closely to all of the other words and write what's missing in the exercise. Check your work with the French only version of the text.
Ready to use French stories save loads of time when you unexpectedly need to miss a day and provide substitute material.
My French stories in 6 tenses are perfect for emergency sub plans that do not require advanced preparation or elaborate instructions. Just print the stories and supplementary materials and you’ll have a fun exercise ready for your students when you can't be there.
